Someone i know from one country had to wait for 6 months before he's approved for his SPR although he's been working for many years in Singapore.

Other citizenship only need to wait for 2 months for approval.

I think the 6 month contract thingy sounds very suspicious. Even for locals, contract jobs are rarely turned into permanent jobs. So, i'm sceptical that your new employer will "convert" your contract to permanent after 6 months. the most likely scenario is once your contract is expired, off you go! ...
