THanks so much for the replies! I am on fence b/c my youngest is almost 3 so she's kind of on the verge now...doesn't necessarily need a stroller but for long distances she probably would. Hhhhm...Maybe I'll see how the economics shake out -- if we have to whittle down our budget perhaps we could st...

if you are only here for 3 - 6 months, then i would definitely NOT buy a car as they are so expensive here! I would just take taxis which are so reasonable. Everyone goes in them with kids. Yes, it's not the safest, but it's the easiest. I had the concern too about taking our son around without a c...

You can hire a foreign maid always release her after 3 months but that's kind of cruel considering how much in debt they go into with the agents who bring them over. They need at least 6-12 months JUST to pay the agent who brought them over. Live-in maids rooms, (usually only foreign maids live-in)...

You can get local maids for $10/hour. Thank you for the reply. We would be looking for someone for 3-6 months so we'd rather have someone on a monthly basis than hourly. Any idea if that'd be a problem? And I keep hearing maids are so common in Singapore, but aren't they usually live-in? The apartm...

Can you employ a maid for 3 months?

I read somewhere you can't employ a maid short-term (don't know why). We will likely want someone to help clean, cook and watch the kiddos.

Thanks.

Need a car/safety of taxis for kids without car seats?

Hello, We are an American family coming to Singapore for 3-6 months starting in April. Question -- if we live somewhere outside the CBD (East Coast, Holland Village), should we get a car? I know the MRT is fantastic but some neighborhoods are not close to MRT so you'd have to take a taxi (even just ...

Re: 3-6 Months in Singapore

2) if the kids are not going to school, just sign them up for some month long activities, group cycling, group painting, horse riding, music classes etc. any ideas where to find out where month-long activities for kids are? and it's good to know someone is encouraging about finding a short-term pla...

Furnished/Serviced Condo for 3-6 Mo, E. Coast or Holland V

Hello, We are an American family tentatively coming to Singapore in April for 3-6 months to launch my husband's company's Asian business. Since we have two young children and my husband hasn't set up an office yet, the East Coast sounds nice, or Holland Village does as well. We would like a building...

3-6 Months in Singapore

Thanks very much for the reply. I've done quite a bit of searching on-line (on this site and others), but the thing I can't figure out is whether any come fully furnished and for a shorter stay than a year. So what I'm seeing is serviced apartments that are small and expensive and regular condos tha...

3-6 Months in Singapore

We are an American family (kids are 3 and 5) and are considering a 3-6 month stint in Singapore. My husband's fairly large US company needs to get a presence established in Asia (open an office, figure out if they're going to manufacture here, hire salespeople). We're trying to figure out if this is...
