Suitable housing location in Singapore

Hi All, I am moving to Singapore at the end of June 2010 with my wife and a 1 year old baby, my work place would be in Ayer Rajah Crescent. What would the ideal location for me to look for an apartment or hdb flat rental with a budget of around 1000SGD per month. Thank you for your advice in advance.
