Can anyone recommend a cheap but reliable handyman for some basic general work that needs to be done in the unit. For example, removing large picture hooks from wall, smoothing over and repainting the hole, reattaching a kitchen cupboard that has come off its hinges etc. Thanks

do a search for that term on this board. There have been several mentioned. A search for handyman with the poster Strong Eagle may turn up one, if I remember correctly.

I'm looking for the same thing. A search on the board reveals info that is around 3 years old. And lots of oh-so-helpful long-term posters/keyboard warriors telling people to search on the board and that they're idiots for asking for help.
Has anybody used a decent handy man in the last 12 months? Just need a roller blind repairing. Grateful for any tips.

Did you try contacting any of the handymen mentioned?
Did you look here?
http://classifieds.singaporeexpats.com/ ... low=&high=
Did you try calling any of them?
Did you look in the mirror? What did you see? From where we are, you most definitely are a Smoking_Gnu. Absolutely nothing lit inside, just a smoldering lump of junk with not a shred of imagination.
Just because an advert or recommendation is 2 years old doesn't mean it isn't relevant does it?

Definitely one for the books. You must be one of the new breed of FT. Or worse, local.

Yep. Mummy Mantras' recommendations. Neither answering the phone.

The classified section give a list of service providers. It is not particularly useful in terms of personal recommendation. Taking an entirely hypothetical example, one might be dissuaded from engaging a headhunter whose website consistently misspells 'résumé'. However, if that individual were highly recommended, one might alter one's view.

Careful. You sound like my mother.

The laws of physics may be immutable, levels of service are not. People retire, die, rest on their laurels, change their phone numbers, jack up prices, etc. etc. It is a fair assumption that someone with a limited number of posts has a limited number of Singapore contacts and hence no real way to tap into current knowledge save for using forums like this one. I found my dentist through the search function actually. It is rather good, I agree - but not infallible.

I've been here 2 months. Can I apply for PR? And where can I find an Indian boyfriend with a Masters degree?

I do seem to have a sixth sense about that, don't I.

Unless you know somebody reasonable well her or his recommendation on a public forum is worth next to nothing. You can only verify it searching around so starting directly from this point you may often save a lot of time and troubles. But you know better. Anyway, this is your problem you've been trying to solve, not the long-term posters.

i use a man with a van (okay, more like a box truck) called William. his cell is 9150-1952 and he does it all.
i use him very regularly as he's reasonably priced, fast and he speaks some english.
as far as i know, he's a licensed electrician and plumber but he doesn't do plumbing work unless you're a "regular."
he also issues actual receipts in his own handyman company's name (albeit via email) and has never ran away from a job.
hope this helps!

Hey Taxico. Thx. Just moved in to the
condo so will keep him in mind. (Got my roller blind fixed by the neighbour for the price of a pint in the end

) Thx for the help!

You guys can probably try a Mr Ong at 91753986. Terrible english he has but really reasonable rates and excellent stuff. I'm not sure if he is still accepting 'new' people though.. he only does 'regulars' i think

Maybe you can try out using PageAdvisor mobile apps available in both iOS and Android phone.
Basically you can post your job description with the apps and their merchants will quote to you within minutes.
You can see their profile and reviews from past customers and decide for yourself whether to engage them.
Hope this helps!
