Difficulty looking for work

Hi,

I am an American interested in working in Singapore and I just completed a masters degree in Europe.What is the difficulty of getting an employment pass a non-singaporean/non-resident considering the relatively low unemployment rate in Singapore?

Your chances are close to zero if you think you will walk in cold and find a job.

Read prior posts by me and Strong Eagle which describe the issues foreigners face in obtaining employment.

The government doesn't want you taking jobs from locals.

Employers much prefer to hire locally.

Unless you're in a niche specialty and a true whiz bang, there is nothing to recommend you over a local.

If you want to work in Singapore, go to work for a multi-national with offices in Singapore and ask to be transferred. It's about the only way.

Chances are very low but not zero, depends on your degree, if your Master thesis work was cutting age, lets imagine - brain computer interfaces or genomics - you have a chance to get in.

Not great unless you’re especially good at what you do. It would be smarter to get a job here through an American company with an office here rather than to try to seek employment with a local company.

Very well put. Last point is so true, it would be much easier to get transferred here working for an MNC than to try to seek out a job locally. Salary and benefits will probably be much better as well.
