Fine-dining in Singapore

Whenever an occasion comes like my wedding anniversary or my husband and I just feel like having a romantic dinner out in style. We find ourselves wondering where to go to.

So many places to eat in Singapore. But where are the REAL classy fine-dining places?!

The Cliff at Sentosa has a Michelin star chef most times.
And I saw a hotel Singapore somthing or other hotel on Orchard road and they too have a Michelin star chef visiting.

Its the Hilton that had the Mich star chef for a few days hes gone now.

Cliff is a nice choice, for ambiance etc. food is OK, we like IGGYs, feels a bit like eating in a basement but food better than average, apart from that I have to admit I have not found a joint that's on par with some of the best in Europe which is understandable as we are not in Europe. Just as you will be hard pushed to find a ba kut tei joint in Europe that's on par with the ones in Malaysia.

Try Ristorante Da Valentino in the Bukit Timah area. A little, warm Italian eatery with down-home cooking served by an Italian family in Singapore. Reservations ABSOLUTELY required. Gets lively, but ironically, I find such places offer the most privacy when you have your little table for 2 tucked in a corner...

Capsule reviews for a few places I've gone to recently:

* Aoki, Japanese restaurant run by the Les Amis group. Sushi lunches are excellent, just don't go for dinner unless it's on someone's expense account...
* Magma, solid German cuisine. Perfect place to go when hankering for big chunks o' pork and sauerkraut! Reasonably priced, and I'm looking forward to their Xmas dinners.
* Tavolo, Italian food by a Japanese chef -- works better than you'd think, but quality was a little uneven. Not cheap.

theres some really cool places if you like Indian fine dining try Ivory in Clarke Quay, or Suburbia at Sentosa or even Naumi Hotel at Seah Street,

I just went to Indochine at the Asian Civilizations Museum. I thought it was a flashy dining area with crystal chandeliers at the indoor area. The outdoor area was very nice too with candles etc. Food is asian fusion and for sharing. I thought the food was excellent and I would remember it for that. Not a cheap place but worth it for the food quality compared to other places.

I would heartily recommend Le Pont de Vie at 26 Kandahar Street in historic Kampong Glam. Located in a beautiful shop house, this restaurant serves fine cuisine and good wines and is not too pricey considering the quality. Staff are friendly and the whole place has a romantic flair. It is also a popular destination fro Valentine's day, anniversaries and romantic, I love you, birthdays.
