Lucky you re your commute route. There's someone I noticed from my building that commutes to the CBD (Tanjong Pagar area), probably from the East Coast. I would be careful locking your bike like that - someone can easily un-install your front wheel in seconds and take the rest of your bike! Suggest you lock it on the top tube or down tube instead.

Agreed about theft. Even though Singapore is generally a safe haven. I had a friend only two weeks ago have his bike stolen in Tanjong Pagar

How is it going with regards to cycling to work?

I am both a driver and cyclist so I can appreciate sharing road space from both viewpoints. A tip to fellow cyclists would be to practice habits as if you are driving a car:
- keep in lane and don’t be pushed into the gutter so that cars have to go around you, and not squeeze past you
- signal clearly and always keep a look out to the traffic behind you
- avoid squeezing in between lines of cars if you are going slowly
- avoid edging up the left side of a bus as that is a common blind spot which results in most accidents

I can't provide any specific routes for that area but if you are used to city cycling Sg is not so bad.
Drivers aren't particularly competent but are predictable and generally lack the aggression you find in their western counterparts. Pretty easy to adjust to.

I would imagine your commute in Shanghai could be entertaining - that's based on the videos I see coming out of China.

Really? Easy to adapt to? Haha maybe less of the rage bullying but i am sure that cycling on SG road ain't that safe like in China, whereby you have hordes of people cycling. There are safety in numbers i say. Here in SG, very few people cycle and now & then we hear about news reports of cyclists accidents.

So really need to be VERY careful while cycling on the roads, best to avoid and cycle on sidewalks.

Cycling on pavements is currently illegal though sensible riders are tolerated. New legislation is being introduced, possibly by year end, to allow but regulate wheels on pavements.

Depends on where you are on the island. Tampines is legal.

On Park Connectors and cycle paths. Not on footpaths. Tampines could be an exception.
