Genting Highlands in a rental car or bus

Dear Singapore community,

My wife and I are visiting during December and planning to go to Genting for NYE. We are considering to rent a car and add a visit to Malacca. If we rent a car, would you suggest to rent in SG and drive over or get across the border into J.B. and rent it there?

You can rent cars here specifically to drive over to Malaysia. I would probably do that.

Genting is a shit hole tho.

I took a plane to KL airport and had a Malaysian car pick me to Genting. And then back to KL airport
