ICT EP vs Regular EP for employer

Post by strayapanda » Sun, 26 Apr 2026 7:54 am

Hi - first time posting here.

I have worked for my current company for 7 years and there is an mid-level opening in Singapore. Hiring manager would love to have me moving, had a chat with the recruiter and he mentioned they need to be compliant with local regulations, inclduing posting the job on mycareerfuture for 14 days and interview several candidates.

My wife is singaporean but I'm australian, we are both in Australia at the moment.

My current position is higher than the mid-level opening, internally, the hiring manager said they are willing to adjust the level for me. However, the current post of the site is for mid-level.

My salary range is likely higher than the post on the site too. If i understand correctly, the regular EP requires the salary range to be within the post range, otherwise it is being unfair to local candidates.

This is getting into the details of visa, I saw that ICT EP is available and I'm wondering if it is common for employer to use ICT instead of regular EP and I believe it is easier for them too?

I'm not too worry about future job employment because my spouse can sponsor a LVTP for me. That will take 6 months and the opportunity will be gone by then so I will need an EP for now before moving to LTVP.

G’day @strayapanda;

Mate, your concerns about your employer — both whether they will handle your pass correctly and whether they will handle your job and pay correctly — seem excessive… you even have a LTVP backup plan. What gives? Are you running from someone or something?

The employer is responsible for getting your pass sorted, not you. As long as you have provided all information accurately on the application, you’ve done your part. As an employee, you need to leave the rest to them.

However, you absolutely should insist that they hold up their end of the bargain regarding your pay and position. Singapore is routinely crowned one of the most expensive cities in the world, and you shouldn’t lean on your Singaporean spouse to subsidize the company’s obligations to keep you whole financially.

thanks for your reply - i think i should sit back and let the system work.

It is a great opportunity for me so im getting nervous about it.

My main concern is that ICT is not really common so i might miss out the opportunity if they don’t consider it as a viable option.

Correction: LTVP can take up to 6 months to process, not purely 6 months. So, it can be processed in a shorter time.
