REP renewal annually only

Hi all just want to see if anyone is in my shoes or have any solutions to my predicament.

Age: 38, female. PR for 20 years
Educated locally from pri sch all the way to uni

5 years ago i got engaged to a Singaporean man and we decided to wait until we are married to apply for citizenship. I also quit my job during that time. However life happened and we broke up 3 years ago. We sold our condo so i dont own any property now.

During REP renewal for the past 3 years they only gave me yearly validity. Ive tried finding jobs since then but i think the market is really bad and my renewal this year is coming up in a few months. What are the chances they will renew me for another year again? Should i just take whatever job and salary first?

As long as you are in Singapore, you do not need to worry. Permanent Residence is permanent.. as long as you don’t leave Singapore without a valid REP.

Being without a REP is like a citizen without a passport. You can stay as long as you like, but you can never leave (queue the Hotel California song).

I would certainly not take “any” job just for the sake of a longer REP renewal. If you do get a rejection, you can appeal with proof of travel plans outside Singapore.

When you do that, they will likely question your intentions and continued qualifications, but, as long as you are genuinely living in Singapore, they will, in all likelihood, renew your REP. If not, just stay in Singapore until you get “the right job” then reapply for a REP.
