Unless the government changes is direction away from this zero Infection strategy it's only going to get worse. It is more or less accepted that it is endemic in the world at large. Singapore cannot survive by itself in isolation. The world doesn't need Singapore, Singapore needs the world. Damn big difference.
Without vaccinating enough, opening up will result in casualties of the weak and elderly. And it’s densely populated.
It’s well known that Singapore society is aging.
Put it another way, would you trade your grand parents for money. I’m not saying it’s wrong or it’s right. I just know there are people out there who would.
Am I missing something here, but aren't all the elderly and high risk groups already been offered vaccination long time ago. I mean, yes I know that vaccination doesn't provide 100% protection, but still, life is full of other risks and people do eventually die.

It's a well known fact that all developed economies have rapidly aging populations. It a result of the boomer generation. The largest generation in the history of this ball of dirt. We are/have reached retirement age, it's inevitable. Not just here, but everywhere. I'm a leading edge boomer myself. I've was vaccinated in late Feb/mid March.
Someone doesn't want to get Vaxxed, they like to gamble, then it on them. The government shouldn't show any sympathy and should charge them if they didn't get it when they were offered it for free.
SOME PEOPLE TRY TO TURN BACK THEIR ODOMETERS. NOT ME. I WANT PEOPLE TO KNOW WHY I LOOK THIS WAY. I'VE TRAVELED A LONG WAY, AND SOME OF THE ROADS WEREN'T PAVED. ~ Will Rogers

I would reckon the time to open up, according to some bbg sources, are when 66% are vaxxed.
We are falling short of the target, due to the lack of supplies.
So… what choice for now, but to wait.
See no point in being gung ho about it when kids are falling sick left right center. And some elderly with health issues ineligible to be vaxxed.
Also, i guess it isn’t just developed economies that have smaller families. It seems to be a East Asian trait. Japanese/Taiwanese/HK/Korea have low TFRs.
Not quite 1st world for some of ‘em.

Not quite 1st world for some of ‘em.
From that list I'd count them all in 1st or developed countries, assuming of course that Korea refers to South Korea. There EU countries that I wouldn't necessarily count as 1st world or developed countries yet.
But yes, vaccinations needs still to pick up higher I agree, and there are supply challenges with that.
Not sure what you are referring to kids falling sick. There's been a few cases in schools, and reaction has been heavy handed, that's why I'm in quarantine too at the moment. Or was that outside Singapore reference?

Sounds like a tabloid news, but yes there are people who believe anything in the internet.
So badly written, it refers to 38 cases and makes it sound it was 38 children who had covid passed between them when so far there's not a single in school child to child passed case reported. Not saying those couldn't come while we wait in quarantine, but still for current reporting when it actually was 38 cases and some of them were children. On purpose or to sensationalise it had journalism anyway.

It’s a broadsheet in print, circulating to millions. It’s definitely have larger audience globally than the Straits Times.

This is one of the biggest (if not the biggest) and oldest English newspapers in India. Yes they are more tabloid like nowadays with sensationalized garbage content (both print and online). The Hindu is probably one of the more responsible media outlets with real news.

Straits times. Can't even compare the numbers. In terms of journalism, slightly different but similar levels on the garbage scale.

Yes, that was not the point how many readers it has, it's quite obvious that an Indian newspaper even if a local one is going to have a larger readership than any Singapore or other small country newspaper. Just that the article did not seem to have much of fact checkers had worked on it, but wrongly quoted misinformation.
