I am sure, with both of your positions, you have often run into the myopic mindsets of government officials who, for the life of them, cannot see or are not allowed to think outside of the box. However, persistence does have some weight as we have seen some who have applied 4 or 5 times and eventually got it (either PR or SGC). I hope you find success and let us know how it goes. I cannot say it will help normally, but it doesn't hurt to try. I went that route back in '88 and even then it didn't help. But normally an MP cannot overrule an officer in ICA. ICA is like INS in the US. They're gods unto themselves. They don't answer to the government in general otherwise, their effectiveness ultimately gets undermined. But, having said that, the general consensus is to only reapply after 24 months (minimum 18 but it's debatable). An appeal normally only stands a chance IF there was something relevant that would change the scoring of an application that was inadvertently left off of the original application. I could give you a good example of how that can go (but it was in my 1995 application during the interview that it came out and I was a shoe-in after it was revealed).

The volunteering thing will not be looked upon as being detrimental but will just be disregarded with regard to the allocation of positive points. Nothing will be subtracted, it will just be a null factor, e.g., info only.

My daughter is applying for citizenship now on her own merit - as she is 22 years old. Should she write an appeal letter or a letter as to why she wants Singapore citizenship and upload it in the ' other documents ' section? Would it make any difference.

If she was on the original family application that was rejected, then probably an "Appeal" might be the best way to to. But I not sure how much benefit either will be, to be honest. But linking it with the rest of the family via an appeal, to me would seem a bit more beneficial as you as the parents are still holding on to your PR and is further proof of intent.

@sundaymorningstaple yes, she was on the original application but the rejection came in 2022 so no point in an ' appeal' so late. Now she cannot apply with us as she is more than 21 years of age so she has to apply on her own. She is working as a TA side by side while being a student so she is writing all that. If at all that helps that she works and is not just a student. My husband today said they have a Compass- they score you points according to certain criteria and if you meet their score you get it. We are also thinking her International Schooling and university may get her a low score but we cannot change that - she actually wants to come and stay home with us and study in Singapore. She doesn't feel safe in US she says. Sigh. They never listen to you to start with - kids ! hahahah Its okay- we all learn through our journeys, I guess. Will keep you ( and any other readers) updated- we learn through such forums as they do not give us any reasons. Also ' appeal' will have to go through lawyer - and you said they do not like lawyers- so its just apply apply - until they give it to us. Until then do what gives me a sense of belonging like some community work. That's the best I can do, my students say they will write me testimonials haha just like I write for them and many got into medical school. Thanks for reading.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for her. You misunderstood me, but that's probably cause I'm an old farmboy. What I meant by Appeal, was not in a legal sense about the rejection. I didn't clarify, but I meant appealing for their consideration that she was returning to Singapore to further her education and put roots down here as she has grown up here even though she may have gone to an International School. If she has a local circle of friends (not Int'l School ones) that also might be worth mentioning. Something that will show a willingness to integrate (probably the most important thing as is your thinking about joining Government organizations).

@sundaymorningstaple to add on as I forgt to answer some queries.
I love volunteering and often take my poly students on youth expedition programmes. My daughter is grown up and I can use my time productively working for my GRC- it will give me a sense of fulfillment. I did not plan to do it just for my SC - have been exploring it for years now and now finding a way in. This year I saw a banner asking people to join and I immediately responded.
I can only continue doing what I believe in, cannot help if ICA looks at that as something for getting SC. It does not really matter ; as long as I stay here I will continue doing what I beleive in. Hopefully they will keep renewing my REP every 5 years. And yes, I will keep applying. Someone suggested to attach my MP's appeal letter - will it help? Thanks
