I went crazy with home food. I had a container but owned no possesion to fill it and so I went out and bought food which I was told was hard to find.

-billions of tea bags
-Jars of marmite
-Branson pickle
-a years supply of baked beans
-Brown sauce.

All things that I didnt eat in UK and was worried I couldnt find in SG.

Apart from the tea bags which I gave away, the rest were thown in the bin unopened, once it reached its expiry date.

LOL, most of that is fairly easy to find here nowadays, perhaps the person who told you about it was here quite a while ago.

We shipped some wine with our furniture and that got through OK. They might have changed the customs laws for that now though but we declared it and thought we'd have to pay duty on it but they didn't charge us anything.

The only foodie items we ever ask people to bring these days are beef oxo and blackcurrant Lemsip. There's not much foodwise that you can't get now (apart from pork pies - but I wouldn't want to eat them after 3+ weeks at sea

)

I don't think there is much we took to SG that we wished we hadn't. We specifically put selected stuff into storage where it remains though (to this day.... sigh)

However, having just left SG (once again), and having had our freight delivered/unpacked today, all 113 cases,.... holy crap the amount of mould on stuff, rust on things, just black dirt we're never seen because of the low light in our flat (and tinted windows), is truly shocking. Ironic given the recent thread about how clean SG apparently is... yeugh. I could write a chapter on what NOT to bring back from SG after today's experience...

What with all systems today sold here being multi-voltage multi-system, you may be hard pressed getting a taker on that one. Unless it's several years old and they are gonna upgrade to 3D anyway.

Yes I expect so

A lot of the fine dust that has accumulated on things like under hi-fi components on the rack, other less visited areas is like black soot.

The other factor I expect is the seemingly perpetual construction going on in SG, and resultant air born dust.

I've got friends who moved from the East Coast to the Orchard area and they found that they got less dust and muck in their house than they got living on the East - so perhaps it is the forest fires.

I have moved so many times , I think I am just going to stay put in one place . I have always traveled light and start anew at my new abode but then again I don't have to worry about kids etc.

A year supply of baked beans is defo too funny

Reckon 113 cases is nothing. Only big piece of furniture we brought was my antique Japanese kaidan-tansu (step-chest), as I am not leaving that anywhere man.

No sofas, no dining table or chairs, no white goods, no beds or mattresses, no coffee or side tables, desks, chests of drawers, floor lamps, bicycles.... . Yep, all that from a 1200ft flat.

You have been warned...

. Starting to understand the differences vs. things like bockwurst. What I am missing is the ability to just buy a decent sandwich... maybe they really are an Anglo/US thing.

But there seems to be no concept of a sandwich shop. Fresh prawn/avo on granary, ham cheese and pickle in French, salmon and cream cheese on (any kind of) bagel an All Day Breakfast sani??? Well sorry, no chance... :-p

You ponder this and think. Is this a marketing opportunity? Then your timid side chips in and says, er maybe they just aren't into that kinda stuff...

A decent burger too (like 'Goodburger' in NYC, or Jonny Rockets)... nope nothing like that either...
