Last time I checked, Saint ISN'T a moderator. And how did you find out OP was an Indian?

Well, Mod/Director/Admin. And Ive been here long enough to know how Indians are taunted. The line is good to be used where applicable but using it for everyone who has a genuine query doesnt really help the cause. But hey its your forum

I concur with Darthcoder. It doesn't take a genius to realise that Singapore immigration policy rightly or wrongly tends to generalise on racial grounds. I try to reconcile this by believing that there are probably valid practical cost/benefit arguments for such an approach. My impressions of this forum are that contributors are incredibly generous and non judgemental in their efforts to help all comers but I do think the comment previously highlighted was made in bad taste.

First of all there's nothing in the OP's original posting that indicates being Indian nor did I imply that the poster must be Indian. You are the one who has brought up that the poster must be Indian. So you are actually automatically assuming Indian.
Secondly, who in there right mind would enroll their child at a school and then get an apartment without checking out school routes and costings?

And if she has checked and in general accepted what was available (or have dozens of other reasons to go for this option) does this still defy common sense to look for some savings? C'mon.

Dude - Director is just referring to the amount of posts that a person has got, see how I'm now Editor, people are member, newbie, director etc. Moderators are actually appointed by the Admin. All very different stuff.
Oh, and although I agree with looking for cheaper alternatives, I have to agree with Saint, it seems a bit daft to enroll in a school and rent a
property without actually checking this information first, it's a horrible journey even in a taxi, very busy, lots of traffic etc.! :S

Actually, as one of the resident trolls I use "Masters" to imply someone who book smart (may be, that isn't actually proven), but blur, lacking common sense, or street smarts. It's just a coincidence that first time Indian posters seeking jobs in Singapore tend to flout their masters and miss the very obvious.

Yup I agree that lots of Indian first time posters (more than any other nationality on this forum) tend to Flout their masters and miss the very obvious, but branding someone (with a genuine query) under the same label and replying with the readymade troll flame answer just gets old after some time. The user was NOT flaunting her masters degree so why answer with the readymade troll flame answer?
But hey, this forum is a result of the efforts of the director/admin and mods (to a certain extent) and you are free to post as you wish. But then again when the same clichéd response is over used (where it might not be applicable) it stops being funny. Anyways, I dont have anything of use to contribute to the OP so I am outta here. Just my 2 cents. Peace.

I can't speak for everyone else in here (as apparently quite a few regulars disagree on whether this is a legit question or not), but to me this question felt a lot like the 'nycmom' who came in griping how hard it was for her to survive on $28k/month in Singapore. To me, OP is probably spending at least S$10k/month (more most of the island's monthly salary) on rent and school fees, but is griping about a S$10 cab ride. Just seemed a bit blur and out of touch I guess. Again, quite a few others saw otherwise, so just take me as a resident cynic.

10 dollars there and back twice a day will add up besides there are social and practical advantages to sharing the trip

This is Singapore. People will wait for half an hour in front of the ERP gate in their 1 million dollar cars to save 1 dollar of the toll. Lets allow the foreigners to gently assimilate even if it is less spectacular
