That it's in the middle of nowhere probably doesn't help either. There's no other reason to be in that area.

I noticed the other day that the bus route now goes by it when before it turned on Stamford in front of the MBS bridge, perhaps to increase traffic flow.

There are few buses that pass by that place but the bus stops are NOT nearby. Bus riders are forced to either walk a long loop to reach the pedestrian crossing, or to jaywalk. There is connecting bridge from the dedicated multi-storey car park across the road but one has to find his own way inside. Inconvenient, really.

Promenade MRT station is also NOT close enough.

For an isolated attraction like that, the trouble is just too much.

The location isn't the best. People obviously aren't prepared to travel just to use the flyer......

And, I agree, the views are nothing special from it.

And therein lies the rub. They used to say the average visitor to SG stays two days... well how many of them are going to take a half-day out of that the ride a ferris wheel in the middle of nowhere?

I've ridden neither the Flyer not the London Eye... nor any other since pre-teens visits to country fairgrounds. No interest. But at least the London Eye is surrounded by other points of interest within walking distance.

SG seems to try and build 'tourist sites' to take passenger traffic to a wider area of SG (bird park in Jurong anyone, surprised they haven't moved the zoo to Seletar? (to neither I have been either, despite being a devout bird-lover!). I reckon most people just can't be bothered... especially when it's 35c in the shade and $35+ just to get in... suddenly enjoying the air-con down at McDonalds Orchard Road is a far better proposition.

Those "duck" things stop at the flyer, and there is some kind of Singapore food trail shuttle bus that stops there.

That said, I did go twice, but only rode once. First time we tried to walk from Esplanade MRT because I didn't know better. By the time we got there there were storm clouds and distant lightning, so they shut the whole thing down. The same kind of weather we see in Singapore almost every day. If they shut down over that, no wonder they lose money.

It's still not a bad place to take tourists if you run out of things to do. Closer than going all of the way to the zoo at least.

I've been to the flyer twice and both on heavily discounted tickets and with different people. Only one side of the flyer has views (as the other faces the sea), and is only interesting to see at night.

And the same view can be seen seen from MBS.

There are no other points of interest that way except for an overpriced copy of Penang's foodie places and you will end up queueing longer than the actual duration of the ride.

I think they have a "drive this ferrari around" type deal near the Gran Prix weekend. Being Singapore I'm sure it's extremely expensive and you're probably extremely limited in what you can do.

and after finding out the guy who smashed the Spyker was told painfully that if you smash the car, the repair has to be from your pocket, and no insurance cover is valid .. that doesn't sound attractive too ..

1) you can take photos with it at the background,
2) if you're a pervert. you can take the flyer with your girlfriend, and nobody can see what you're both doing inside (can't do that in MBS!)

But I've never been even near that thing anyway.

Problem: The staff will try to squeeze to the max number of visitors inside a cabin. Unless you visit during off-peak time, maybe you can try that.

Until last year, our company had corporate pass, and every time I went there, the cabin had less than 10 people max .. and twice it was just me and my other half only .. yep, did about 12 rounds or so .. including those with friends and visitors .. plus more with my volunteer group ..

Only on weekends and when I was there with my volunteer group did they try to fill to max - even then it was nowhere near their stated maximum of 28 - 15 at the most was what I could count ... maybe that's part of the reason for their going into receivership ?
