Hi again, thought of changing the subject title so that you can respond quickly. Am wondering was it easy to find a suitable apartment in Singapore ? We will stay in a furnished one for a month until our furniture arrives and hope to have our children in ofs. Can you give me some pointers on what to watch out for as far as real estate agents, which areas to avoid etc. Would love to get in touch since I know no one in Singapore. Take care

Well that unrelated radom thread was a conversation stopper. I was enjoying all the mud slinging going around for a chage.

As for QRM, the description of Chavs is just right and having an ASBO is seen as cool rather than a punishment. Most of the people who get them (adults, not just kids) are still ignoring their curfews and terrorising the neighbourhoods so they don't even work.

This is one thing I do not miss about the UK. I lived in the outskirts of Nottingham which has just been voted the 4th worst place to live in England. There's no way I would walk through Nottingham after dark, or even through the subway during the day for that matter. At least Singapore is a safe place and you can use public transport without someone working out how to rape/mug you.

My husband has worked hard to get here and yes we both feel lucky and privaliedge to be here but it's not forever. Having now worked/lived abroad we may not go back to the UK but try another country first - it all depends really but for the momen we love it here.

I am a trailing wife but I would have worked had I not found out I was preganant 5 weeks before we left the UK. I did intend to work throughout my pregnancy but no company here will employ a pregnant woman not even as a temp.

Like most things, it depends on how it's said, and from who to whom, and the situation, for it to be nasty or not.

The vernacular is 'trailer trash', at least where I come from. The 'park' part is implied but I've never heard it used.

Think of it as the white person's equivalent of the "N" word (the real word is one I do not condone) for other white people, and you'll get the nuance.

Sometimes it's used in self-effacing levity amongst friends, other times to describe a certain constituency we're all ashamed of for being such a large demographic in the States.

A derogatory term for those of feeble minds, mate. Think of all those silly cable TV shows that I watch all the time - larger people with not a huge amount of intelligence or self-perpetuating longevity.

I believe the saying is "Trailer Park Trash" - very nasty term.

Comments on life here seem to sometimes get taken out of context when providing them. But that doesn't mean you should stop expressing them, even if some (not GC!) try to twist your perspective by being defensive.

Not sure about you but I'd find it hard not to notice a lot of the things I still do after 4 years!

I like where I work. My kids are happy in school here. I enjoy the travel options we have. I have lots of very good friends here now. I guess I've just become very comfortable. Or old.

I do like it here, don't get me wrong. I just like home too.
