I never ever would put my money on Italy (too much traumatised after the so wrongful Dutch defeat in the semi-finals against Italy in Euro 2000 at home in Holland...), but they do know how to slow down an attacking and creative game like the Brazilians play.

And with Paolo Maldini's last World Cup performance, defenders Alessandro Nesta and Fabio Cannavaro, one surely knows how to tackle the Brazilians.

Argentina btw is another example of these tactics, their defending is imho among the best in the world.

Well, historically Brazil is very fragile when are under constant attack.
A Brazilian guy went to coach Costa Rica team last world cup and we almost lost the game. we were very nervous. Then the Belgium coach did the same and we just passed them by lucky!!

To beat Brazil is easy: keep attacking and the team will retract. Our defenders are traditionally like kindergarden kids on crossing balls:(

Take aside the whole "team" thing which before I get trounced with reply's I believe this is the heart of any team, hence Greece. However, England has the best squad of players on this planet! Period! A Squad of players is what it will take to win this World Cup and England has that! When that tournament starts next year they will be ready!

England is on the right side of the curve... unlike other potential favorites.

Germany
Holland
Brazil

The best squad in the world? You should get blasted for that, but naaaah - thesethings have a nasty habit of bouncing back

Oh well, at least I agree with half of your choices, but would still replace England and Germany with Argebtina and Italy.

The good thing about all this: we have many months more to chat, gesticulate, argue, disagree, agree and in the end . . . Trinidad and Tobago will be World Champions.

I believe there is a team that has incredible wingers and has throughout their whole history always played the 4-3-3 game, where a deep striker was fuelled with the best crossings possible...

Arjen Robben is one of their wingers...

Ahh yes but I caught the highlights of the Newcastle - Sunderland game, despite the fact that Newcastle won (which is great). It looked like an entertaining game.

I'm with you Gareth, with my patriotic hat on I'm totally behind England for the World Cup and if we can keep Rooney on the pitch and stay clear of injuries, we will go all the way!

Realistic hat on, Gerrard Campbell and Owen will be injured, Rooney will get sent off and we're end up with Crouch playing up front! We're make it to the semis at best.

You wait, when England beat Holland in next years final 9-8 on penalties(After obviously knocking out Brazil in the semis) it could get a little heated

Only joking, totally agree with you WIMH, football is a very good leveller and is very much a universal language around the world. You can't beat a good old football debate over a few beers!

i could nt take it ...i went to sleep after the first half of the everton chelsea game.... it wasnt boring by EPL standards .. but definately by my expectation of chelsea standards.

one of the reasons could be that the newcastle sundaerland game i watched prior to chelsea game was rather entertaining , i must say i m impressed by sunderland .. i watched them against man united as well and it was good. Sometimes the results are not the only thing that matter.Unlike what Jose might say.Not to say that i dont like seeing chelsea win....but i m not one of those who thinks winning is everything ....

Now that you mention it, last night I watched the Everton - Chelsea game, didnot see it live this weekend.

Man, did I get bored with the long hauls forward every time...

It is at best 'exciting' to watch, but is it inventive, creative, attractive and high level football? Naahh...
