Total football is back eh...

Eric sometimes I miss the old 'unified' teams like Czechoslovakia, USSR, Yugoslavia and such. Though we do have more competing teams but I just miss them..for nostalgic reasons.

Eric I have to say that the Dutch are among the best football fans in the world. Unlike the English who have a yobbish reputation the Dutch are always welcome where ever they go, & transform everywhere into a party.

I too look will forward to a Holland England match.

(but if it happens we will win!

England has to be favorites for the world cup. I think you can still get 7-1 odds for England to win.

Being a Welshman it hurts sitting here about to tell you all that there will be only one team in the competition next year and that team will be England. They easily “by a country mile”

I do think England has a strong squad, probably one of the better ones for next summer, but unfortunately we have a weak Head Coach in Sven.

When he stops picking 11 players but 1 team for a game we'll improve no end!

There's nothing like a football debate. I can honestly say all the points you mention apart from a few are very realistic….. You only need to look at Greece to prove that you don't need the best players in the world to win a major trophy but you need a good coach and a bloody good squad. Maybe I’m contradicting myself now.

However, I believe if you look at the depth of players in the England squad they are so strong. I understand what your saying about the ego's of England football players but don't forget the English League and the International players are plagued by the press with everything they do and say... so it always looks worse than it actually is. There are cases like Rio Ferdinand which are absurd and there is simply no excuse.

I have to disagree with what you say about Beckham.... take aside the press coverage the guy has which is huge to say the least! The guy can play football, I admit he hasn't played well in Spain. Although for the remaining games of last season and this season so far he has been arguably the best footballer in the Spanish league. Did you see him play in the champion’s league against Olympiacos the other week? He was absolutely brilliant he is such an intelligent player certainly not the most attractive on the ball (not in that sense) but his passing ability and awareness of players and reading the game is brilliant. If you watch Real Madrid play he is standing out above the rest, and to do that in a side with that many talented players you have to be a world class player and that's what he is.

I honestly can't agree more when it comes to Sven, he is a liability. He will be the only reason if England fails next year. I think with players like Campbell, Beckham, Lampard and Owen they can win without his guidance. If you call it that.....

If England can’t win the World Cup who will…? I don’t see any team right now who has the depth of players and skill to win the World Cup next year.

If only Wales had qualified…. I can see it now “Giggs sinks England with hatrick of all hatricks”

1990! Wasn't it then when Zenga who hadn't conceded a single goal finally did in the final match? I was so heartbroken for him, hahaha.

I think it was in Espana'82, where Italy,Argentina and Brazil were grouped together in the 2nd round. Only one could qualify and Italy went on to win the World Cup, Paolo Rossi and Dino Zoff went into the history books.

I've always enjoyed the Netherland style of football. The flow and the fact that the players and ball covered almost every blade of grass on the pitch, I hope they will do well next year.

What breaks my heart everytime is when Spain and Italy falter. I don't tag them as 'chokers' but somehow they seem to breakdown at crucial stages...sigh.

I hope the top for will include Holland,Spain,Italy and Brazil.

But I'm really looking forward to watching Ghana, they have yet to be tested at this level although their mettle has been proven in a lesser age group.

What's my favorite footballing nation?

I saw entire Korea/Japan world cup in loco, I will try to do the same in Germany...but if I can not, is a MUST that we get togheter here to watch

even if the matches are 2AM..no problem !! he have enough die hard football fans here.

England, Brazil etc ended up in second place these qualifiers..we going to get another 'death group' this world cup

Eric was not alone. I was awake until 5AM...the game was not on TV so I tuned my favorite brazilian online radio station and listened the game in my laptop
