France - Italy, EURO 2000 final...

The only thing that can prevent Brazil from winning the title once more is when they get too arrogant. But I don't think that will happen, there is a lot of young and very hungry players and with Ronaldinho in charge, this guy is hardworking, realistic, exceptionally talented and simply the best.

If we would get to beat Brazil, I will die happy on a heart attack, I guess...

As much as I dislike the Germany Football side... I will refrain from using the word hate. They will no doubt perform at this world cup, the type of football maybe boring but no doubt it will be efficient and you have to fancy them to get to the semi’s......

My only concern about Brazil is them playing in Europe, I don't know the answer to this question but how many first team players are there playing outside of South America? Like I said before South Americans haven't performed that well in our neck of the woods. No doubt they will reach the semi's at least!

I like your outsider.. Mexico, they've looked good in qualifying I'd also like to see an African nation do well. I've also been a big fan of Croatia over the years they've produced some fantastic players... again not really up to speed on there squad and possibilities......

The previous world cup didnt live up to all the excitement i had ... i hope this one is better.

I think you'll find that the usual English/British stereotype of German footbal is just that, a stereotype, borne from the lovely Sun/Mirror etc . . . headlines.

It's a bit like a Dad's Army version of history, both contemporary and past.

That, and the quite boring style of Berti Vogts as Manager. Did you see the Germany/Holland final Eric alluded to? Brilliant game, attacking, flowing - nice to watch (the result not so nice to watch for the Dutch . . .) from both sides. This was the case in every game of the tournament.

Have you seen any game recently? Confed Cup? Excellent to watch, especially under Klinsman's tutelage, they are scoring more than ever and playing complete attacking football. Lots of young players, even some from the second league.

England? Doubt it very much. As Eric mentioned, there is so little coverage of any other league here, and in the UK, that pundits would think the sun shines out of the EPL's (and England's) arse. So, after they beat a weakened, strife riddled Austria they are going to win the Finals of the World Cup? My God, what utter crap, or bravado.
Only Owen, Lampard and possibly Rooney - if he doesn't lose it - would be world-class.

I would tend to agree with eric's final 4 and I would put my money on (cringe) Argentina to win the lot (sorry Edge). (Croatia being the dark horse)

This, however, is how the German press sees it:

As Uwe Rapolder, the Cologne coach, said in mid-July during a round-table talk: 'Of course we're not going to win the World Cup. That would be a miracle.'

Let's expect what is realistic, the quarter-finals, and leave the players and the coach in peace. We won't find a new team in time.

And, who knows, a good draw and a few lucky breaks might work wonders at the World Cup. We're always best if people are sure we stink.

No problem, that's your view. Brazilians in general are VERY superstitious about our national team, so we do not say nothing about world cup until we get there. So, I won't be saying here Brazil will win. I say we will do the best we can there.

BTW, last night Brazil beat Venezuela 3x0, and we got to the worldcup as first place in the group.

Well, that was a tough group! Ireland, Switzerland, Cyprus, Israel... It will be definitely much easier in Germany!

I'll hold my hands up here and say no! I haven't seen a German league game for about 2 years.... have things changed that much? The German league has never been an exciting league to watch... I’m taking a European perspective not an English perspective.... again let me iteroiate i'm not English i'd rather be German or Dutch than English!

I get the impression the German league struggles to attract the best players in the world unlike the Italian, Spanish and English (only recently though). Of course having the best players doesn't always mean the league is poor (thought I’d get that in before someone tells me).

But when ever I did watch a game or even highlights which should be the best pits it's always been disappointing..... I think I’ll leave it there... it's my opinion.

If someone said to me the League of Wales was boring I would also argue the case.... because it's very entertaining to watch. A bit like watching some kids play in the street mind you.

All the best to Germany and the Dutch next year....

Are you being serious here? Be honest there are more world class players than that in the England side..... Gerrard? Sol Campbell? Terry? Beckham?

Ok, point taken. Unfortunately the media on the British Isles is considerably English-based and biased.

Beckham is a package of income generation. Granted, he is a fine free-kick taker and passer, but so are a lot of players. He is worth what he is because of his looks and his 'fairy tale' marriage to Posh Spice.

Sol Campbel? Nope.

Terry? Possibly. It's difficult to gauge the quality of defenders, but he lacks the speed and ingenuity to be world class. Hard worker, though.

Gerrard? He is the player I most enjoy watching in the EPL. He plays his guts out, runs like a madman, has shots on goal that no-one else would take. He is brilliant and a danger for any opposition, worldwide . . . . when he plays for Liverpool.

Don't get me wrong, England have a good team, with good players and they will go as far as they usually do and then leave with a whimper, laying blame on the referee, the pitch, unfair tactics by opponents and everyone will unite under the Cross of St George and claim the world is against them and how they are happy they are an island. (This will happen while many England supporters are being 'unjustly' arrested for thuggery - the innocents.

I do believe England have the chance to go very far, but maybe not with the selection they have on the pitch now.
