let me take a wild stab in the dark this party is all about food for local singaporen chinese people?

Let me start with a famous saying from Zanzibar " Assumption is the mother of all F@&$ ups!" actually for that matter it is the brother, sister, father et al of all F@&$ ups, at least in my opinion.

To answer your question, more directly, we are not all local singaporean chinese people (not that there is anything wrong with the local singaporean chinese people), we belong to a diverse group called the CGC, who are a bunch of fun loving people who love life and who are gathering on tis season to be jolly, to have fun and laughter together, while sampling what each other has cooked/prepared.

Anyway, merry X'mas to you too, Mr/Ms Wild Stabber.
