There is a parade on Sunday around 4pm, the first ever. And also the pub at Boat Quay is doing something later that afteroon, is it Molly Malone's? Then of course there is the St. Bat's Society Ball at the Fullerton tomorow night and something at the Copthorne on Saturday and the American Club...

Ahhhh St Patrick's Day, the day where the Irish everywhere drink themselves to within a whisker of death (and some even beyond that!), don't go to work, sing themselves silly (including of course the song 'Wild Rover') and play music on anything within reach that makes a sound (all just like any other normal day for the Irish I guess

)

And so it should be. In the UK, we have never been able to have St George's day a national holiday, and before the new licencing laws recently came into force pubs aking for an hour's extension were often refused because it wasn't deemed a 'special occasion'!

Bizarrely though I believe that until recently (and maybe even still) Good Friday was never a public holiday in Ireland, despite it being one of the most catholic of countries. When I asked my Irish work colleagues if they didn't mind this, they said "Of course not, the pubs are closed on Good Friday anyway, so we may just as well go into work"! And who says the Irish are stupid?

Molly Malones down Boat Quay has two bands on tonight, and also tomorrow I think they are closing off one of the side roads and doing the Irish thing. Enjoy
