Making a will here in Singapore

Does anyone know where to go and what to do to make a will here in Singapore?

Recent family events have brought it home to me that our wills are totally out of date (they don't even mention our youngest son) as they were done in Australia many years ago.

I have no idea even where to start here. Do we have to do a new one here in Singapore as a matter of course, i.e are overseas will invalid here?

Get the lawyers to draft a will if you need one.

Thinking as I type I suppose we will need to do that though as we have a child from a previous marriage to consider who is not in Singapore, and then there are assets all over the place as well. The more I think about it the worse it gets.

Its just that I don't have any legal contacts here and don't even know where to start and don't want to be ripped off (is that possible???) and to know that it is done properly. I heard a few horror stories in HK about similar things.

Has anyone else done this here?

I'm guessing it's the same here as in the UK - you don't need a lawyer to prepare your will - write down yourt wishes and have it witnessed by someone, for instance your doctor - who can also vouch for you being of sound mind (or not...). Place said wishes in a safe place. Simple really - in the UK you can get a 'Will writing kit' from W.H. Smith (stationers). Please don't be ripped off by a lawyer

Thanks CZ, I was sort of hoping that there would be something like that around (they have the kits back home in Oz too) but I have not seen anything remotely like it for sale anywhere.

I don't really want to have to visit a legal rep but it is not looking good I can't seem to find anything else around the place.
Anyone else know anything?

It can be complicated if you have existing wills. Basically, a new will supersedes the old one, but it easily becomes messy business in case of disputes. You'd be better off by consulting a lawyer.
