help looking for a 2 bedroom

Hi - I just arrived in Singapore and I've been talking to an agent about 2 bedrooms in the city. He's telling there's not much for under 3K. Do people out there find that to be the case? When I talk to friends they say it seems very high but I am not sure what to do? Find another agent? Any tips out there about good realtors or other methods of finding a place to live?
