Cycling in Singapore

After being an expat in Kuala Lumpur AND a cyclist I soon worked out the KL is one of the most dangerous places for a cyclist. Not only is there no infrastructure for bikes, but the chances of being killed by motorists was high.

Im about to relocate to Singapore and want to know if cycling is easier there, if there is some infrastructure for it, and what about road cycling. How safe is it?

There aren't any designated cycling paths on the roads here. Still, a few brave souls do venture to cycle to work . . .
Definitely not advisable unless you'd like to test out your insurance schemes.

I have been cycling a lot since I'm here. Find it the best way to come around. Well, as long as you don't need to wear business cloths of course.
There are no cycle roads like in europe and some cars don't really seam to accept you at all. Keep away from buses and trucks, there driver seam to be quit stupid.
But, on the other side traffic is low and danger is not to high as long as I not drive main roads to often.
So, there is no rule and no protection and only a few people using becycle, it maybe saver to ride a motorcylce.

I checked out those cycling websites, maps etc and now Im glad that Singapore is so much more advnced then Kuala Lumpur on this account.Compared to KL Singapore will be like cycling in Melbourne or Amsterdam, which are excellent cycling cities. Actually looking forward to the warm weather there for cycling!

Now that Singapore has taken note of there's more cyclists' deaths occurring on road, they have taken some steps like building bike paths. But personally, the bike paths are kinda retarded, there's steps and huge cylinders to block the paths at times, kinda defeat the purpose.
Unlike in USA, the bike routes are on the roads and there's a lot of sign-ages that implied give way to cyclists which drivers in Singapore don't have the courtesy to.
Steer clear of buses and taxis, I have narrow experiences with them, that and lorrys and trucks.
They like to speed by cyclists, maybe for sadistic pleasures:P
That being, said, I'm not judgmental, hell, I'm Singaporean. Just stating my two cents' worth.

I believe it is still possible to rent a bicycle at Bishan Park from the shed beside the skating rink. Cycling from Bishan Park to Upper Peirce Reservoir Park would take about half an hour. Make sure the gears are in good working order or it'll be very difficult to make it up the steep slopes.
