Is it easy to upgrade? definitely NOT. So why blow that much money for what is now an un-upgradable Apple running Intel processors? Doesn't make much sense to me?

I like many others no longer bother upgrading, and an apple running intel processors is ok as some people run both Mac OS and Windows for whatever reasaon (can't do that on a Dell

). In addition the hardware is a good deal more reliable. One can argue they are more expensive but cheap machines give more trouble than enough!
With all the free software out there that is perfectly good, who needs a PC that will run both and at inflated costs just to purchase it? Not me. Course I don't have any bragging rights ............
Whatever the reasons for owning a Mac are, apparently it isn't enough to sway the other 85% of the computer owning population is it. Guess that kinda says it all doesn't it!

The other 85% - that' their problem.

They can carry on upgrading the various heaps of tin so commonly available and waiting all day for some dork on a tech support line to actually bother answering. Have a nice day.

I prefer my grapes in a bottle preferably from the southern France or northern Spain.

Don't know why exactly you needed free software, the point is I don't need it. While were on the subject the software I need is either available in an online library or available on disks which run on either system. For those of you who either need or prefer macs, Microsoft Office is available for such machines should they need it.

Works on all hard ware ( you'd really be surprised how much when you take a closer look)
and
Ubuntu latest desktop version is stunning
of course you could screw it up to make it look like a mac or XP machine but heh at least you have the choice

I'm using Ubuntu, and it's GREAT! I switched over to LINUX after a horrible experience with Vista, and there's no looking back. At work, I use both Linux (for high end computing) on a workstation, and Windows XP (for the usual grunt work my bosses want) on a company-owned laptop. In the future though I'm buying a MacBook since I can configure it to support both my UNIX/LINUX requirements and the basic PC gruntwork. I was about to install Ubuntu on my work-laptop, but was told by IT that they'd kill me if I did it. (They claim they wouldn't be able to troubleshoot it if something went wrong, and I said it's unlikely anything will ever go wrong--hey, my Linux workstation has been running 24/7 for 3 whole years!!! And I'm the Administrator/Root for it, bwahahaha!)
