Hi,
I have recently moved to Singapore from Cape Town and am looking to start sailing. I used to sail in Table Bay on a 30' Charger doing various tasks withing the cockpit. Looking for a regular crew to sail with.
Cheers
Kim

Best bet is to place advert at the local marinas, recreational boating in Singapore is relatively new. The big problem I found here while sailing, there are no quiet sandy bays or islands with clear water within Singapore territorial waters. So on day trips you don’t really have any destinations to head to for BBQ snorkeling etc.

hi hi
I am from EUROPE and arrived in Spore six moths ago. I have been trying also to join a yacht crew but I have finally given up. Sporeans are more interested in socializing in so called Sailing Clubs than actual off shore sailing. These clubs are a complete rip off and do not provide any particular facilities apart from expensive small boats rentals and beginners sailing lessons. However you can spend a lot of money there in drinks, food and membership fees...
Malaysia seemslike a better bet...I have a few contacts there...we can talk if you wish

Been reading the posts and thought I'd give my two-penneth worth.
We've been here (in Singapore) for almost 5 years and like you guys we wanted to continue sailing (which we thoroughly enjoyed whilst in Kuala Lumpur - KL). However, our experiences have been pretty much the same a khairo's and we now have totally given up.
KL (or Royal Selangor Yacht Club) is a totally different scene with a good crowd (albeit small) and regular races. We miss it quite a lot and would recommend to anyone anyday. It's definitely worth investigating.
Kindest regards

I went out Changi Sailing Club and met a whole bunch of people a while back. There seemed to be quite a bit of activity - but then again it was a formal regatta! I guess I'll just have to go back for another visit...

So I guess the cheap joining fee at RSYS (??) is a no go, then?

Can you tell me more? Although I am more likely to join a club on the basis of where I sail, rather than just because there are cheap fees.

if you are into sailing, then Changi Sailing Club would be a better bet, RSYC caters more to the powerboat crowd.
Changi used to be more happening but there are still a number of die hard sailors , It has a website
http://www.csc.org.sg/ where you can find the sailing calender from May to August. Maybe the staff can put you in contact with someone who needs a crew.
I understand that it also offer short term membership if you are keen to join.

I run an 8 m. sportsboat out of Raffles and am constantly looking for crew for racing, practice and cruising, also have a boat in thailand.
Contact me if still interested.
Generally at raffles there is a Fun race and one IRC club race every month, then you have the bigger local regattas added to that. No need to join a club for the purpose of sailing, many of the owners are members but raffles marina is public as far as the restaurant goes.

I'm sure your 8m boat is worth some investment value. How much is it worth now? It would be great if you hv a photo of your boat for viewing.
Thanks

yxan, and other racers/owners
I'm just arrived from San Diego, been racing on staghoundsailing.com for the last two years, before that 2 trans-atlantics and 10+ years on FJ's, Thistles, and Hobicats. I'd love to catch up and crew a race on your 8 meter! Drop me a line if you could use a hand!
