Cadet Pilot Minimum age?

Hi Guys,

I am a little confused over the basic requirements for the SIA cadet pilot scheme. Thus I need a little help from you guys here =D

Is there a minimum age for locals (Singaporean), to join the SIA cadet
pilot scheme? I am 20 this year and am liable for National Service later
this year. Will my NS-liability status hamper the chance for me to get into e scheme?

Wouldn't doing NS in the air force be good preparation for commercial flying?

Yeah I guess it wouldnt hurt at all. But what is making me think twice is because of the long bond needed for us to join as a pilot in the air force thats why.

I counted it out.... I would be around the age of 32 when I come out from the RSAF pilot scheme. Guess tts quite an old age to join as pilot in the commercial section?

you are 20 this year right? 12 yrs of bond with RSAF? I only you cannot leave before your MOS(minimum years of services) which i think its about 6-8yrs..not really sure about whent he bond start. but anyway..you are too young to fly commercial pilot. they will not even consider you cannot even watch R21 movie, and never held any rifle before.

ha but anyway.... I didnt meant that I wanna go try out to be a commerical pilot for my age... Was refering to if e cadet pilot scheme for SIA is still possible for my age and NS-Liability status.

i'd think any job would require you to serve your ns first before applying. same goes for the cadet pilot prog. ur ns liability is still a liability.

Even if you wanna try for cabin crew, it's not possible coz you have not completed NS yet. 32 is not an old age for you to get into commercial. I've seen over 40s who are first officers. Many Singaporean pilots I know were from RSAF. I believe it would be a good step towards commercial.

Given the responsibility required, I don't think I would want anyone less than 32 flying a plane that I'm on.

A fair number of First Officers with British Airways are well under 32, if I remember correctly 26 is the cut-off age for new recruits whereas Singapore Airlines won't start you until you are at least 26.*

*This is something I remember from an earlier discussion unfortunately I can't find the post or thread at the moment.

If they've got enough hours real (not school) flying experience, I suppose I can accept that.

If i enrol myself into a self-sponsered pilot programme... Upon graduation, I will be so-called over-qualified for e position of cadet pilot and thus need to apply for positions as a 1st-officer instead in a national carrier right? Will it be tougher to get a career as a tech crew in this way(by paying your own education and license) or by going through their cadet pilot training scheme?

It doesn't mean you have graduated from a self-sponsored pilot programme, you'll be over-qualified. It really depends on what aircraft type rating you had during you self-sponsored training. You will apply for the position of first officer if you have the required number of hours on the relevant type rating. If your rating doesn't meet the requirement, you will still have to apply for the cadet pilot programme.

Haha driving requires steering wheels, gears, clutches, accelerators and brakes. Flying requires way more instruments than that. Doesn't mean you are an expert in driving, flying would be easy.
