Mangoes

The long awaited alphonso is finally here, albeit later than usual, probably because of pre-monsoon showers in India.

I bought a box of 12 from Mustafa yesterday @S$17.90. The size is medium and all mangoes are ripe and ready to eat. The taste is excellent. A box of 12 similar sized and also ripe alphonso at Peshwai (Belilios Lane) is selling @S$25.

I also picked up a box of Kesar mangoes (Gujarat) from Mustafa @S$18.90. I am yet to taste them.

How were the Kesars? I got some Alphonsos from a friend (all the way from Bombay... not necessary any more!) but haven't bought any in Singapore this year.

Kesar is simply superb. I got a couple of more boxes last week.

I was about to call you if you knew anyone selling mangoes......cause not so happy with Mustafa mangoes which we picked up in early may. Is the Peshwai size better then Mustafa? Buzz me if u have any one selling good quality mangoes...cheers

I agree with you, the earlier stock of alphonso in Mustafa did not look good. No fragrance at all. But the alphonso box I picked up from Mustafa was excellent, however, it is no longer in stock. Peshwai's mangoes are of the same size but price ranges around 25 per box. This was as of last week - not sure if they still have them.

Try the kesar if they still have them. You will love it if you like ras-rotli. Can be cut as well.

Peshwai now selling alphonsos at 20 per box/ 35 for 2 boxes. All ripe.

New stock Kesar arrived at Mustafa at 18.90 per box. All green (kaccha).
