I am going to apply in NTU for post graduation, for the August session 2009. I've to fund myself completely, so I'm going to apply for a bank loan and would also definitely need to have a part time job. My questions related to my situation:-
1. How tough is it for a foreigner/student to get a part time job?
2. What is generally the average living expense per month keeping in mind, I'll be a student?

I suggest you apply for student pass, and look for part-time job while you are studying.

I have been told by people, that part time jobs don't pay enough to cover up for too many expenses.

Here is everything you need to know, from the schools you can attend (in order to qualify to be able to get permission to work part time to start with). as well as how old and how many hours you can work and in what industries.

@tengku - No, I'm applying for masters in mass communication in NTU - coursework based. Not research. Do you have thoughts to share on the institute? So far, I've heard good reviews. What is your opinion?
@sundaymorningstaple - Thanks for the information, this is helpful.

I'd REALLY take that ranking list with a grain of salt. I see universities ranked far too high, and some ranked far too low. Who knows what the criteria is?
Why is Harvard #1? Because you get a really good education? Or because that degree, plus your own abilities, tends to open more doors? It certainly wouldn't be the actual undergraduate teaching, where graduate students teach beginning math students rather than real professors, who are too "busy" doing research for those precious citations to actually teach.

I think you should look into doing freelance assignments to get by.
Unless you want to flip burgers for 3.50 an hour/waste of time imho for your caliber of expertise.
You can look around and see if companies need flexi-workers because of the recession.

That's a helpful suggestion and I wouldn't at all mind doing it. Just wasn't sure what is the scope of flexi-workers in Singapore. Currently, I'm into online advertising so wouldn't mind working part time for an Agency or something. Any thoughts?
