Good Internet shops for Sinapore

Are there any good internet shops in Singapore ?
At home I have Amazon.co.uk for example. Even the food shopping can be done online and they deliver to your house ?

Can I do that in Singapore too ??

I know Singapore people love to shop. SO the shops are too crowded.

I never like shopping in Asia, especially places with pushy sales staff who crowd you and follow you around the shop until you buy something. (More so in HK and SG).

or to the other extreme the other day, where the sales staff was so so slow. Even when the cashiers was scanning my shopping, I aged so much.

Hi,
For things like groceries you might like to try cold storage's online ordering system. With purchases over a certain amount, delivery charges will be waived.

On the other hand, I am actually planning to set up an online personal concierge service whereby we help you to do anything such as grocery shopping, gift shopping, clothes shopping and so on. This is so that busy executives may concentrate on their work not worrying about needing to run their many errands which they have on their list every other day.

Do you think this is a good idea? Feel free to share your opinions with me.

It's already being done by several other here. Whether or not is a money making enterprise or not is another story. I suspect if you were to ask them, they would tell you no, just to keep you from stepping on their toes as it were. Give it a shot. There are already professional "Hold your place in line" types out there.

Online shopping is virtually non-existant here...going shopping in a mall is like a national sport here in Singapore, much to the frustration of most expats

Internet shops are not that popular in Singapore. I remember I used to run errands for a foreign couple. They give me instructions on what to buy and what not to buy. At the end of the day, I return to their place with their goods and they are happy with the purchases.

You don't go out that often do you?

from what i know, there are tons of internet blog shops in singapore. my local friend who is very into online shopping tells me that there are many of these shops which are set up by youngsters. if you google online shopping, you will find some HUGE blog communities such as sgflea. beware though, because while you may find some pretty clothes which are such good deals many of the stuff are imported from places like thailand, HK and korea so sizes tend to run smaller (we all know that asians can be so lithe and slim).

there are some internet services which deliver necessities as well. for eg i used mypharmacy.com.sg once to buy my supplies of vitamins lol. that wasn't too bad.

Back in the UK I preferred to do my leg work online, comparing prices etc and finding the best deals then going to that shop and making my purchase or ordering on line.

Over here you can't do that. I've been looking online allot for baby stuff over the last few months and found online shopping is very limited.

Like someone said though, for Grocery shopping I believe Cold Storage deliver. And if you buy a trolly load of stuff from Carrefour, they will deliver the next day for either a nominal amount or for free.

I have thought about using V Post to do online shopping in the UK/US but have heard some bad stories about V Post's service so have not yet used it. Instead, I've ordered from Amazon in the UK and had goods delivered to family who have then mailed the stuff out to me here.

snowqueen, is it significantly cheaper to have items delivered to an address in the UK and airmailed over vs Amazon's "regular" airfreight charge? I am not sure what postage is like in the UK. I do buy lots of clothes for the man online and have them shipped across direct.

Also, has anyone tried buying toiletries from Amazon and have them deliver it?

It is, you don't have to pay the base charges for Vpost - 14.99 i believe.
You can get your friend in the UK to repack the clothes densely and repackage it.

So your volumetric weight don't rocket up high, further more with personal mail there is no sales receipt, so you won't pay 7% GST for your purchases.

As a leaving gift from UK, some Idiot gave me Amazon vouchers. They are useless here. And as they are already registered onto my amazon accout, I cant even use it to give vouchers to someone else. So considering buying stuff and also have it shipped over.

Noticed books are depressingly expensive here. It sucks because most books also have the UK price on the back cover so I know what I would be paying for them at home.

Someone mentioned yesterday that its cheaper to buy books in like HK and have them shipped over here.

Books i get from Amazon direct.
You can use the coupons if its for books and DVDs.

Its 4.99 USD base then 4.99 USD per book/DVD to be sent here direct regardless of weight.

I've spent alot of money with Amazon to ship straight to Singapore, so far no problems. The beauty is that Amazon will be responsible if the package is not delivered to you.

So even if its lost, they'll send you another copy.
