Flights to Laos

Hi,
I'm trying to book flights to Laos.
Are there any direct flights from Singapore to Laos (anywhere in Laos)?
If not, has anyone tried to fly to Udon Thani?
Or what is the best way?
Is it possible to do it over a weekend?

As far as I know there are no direct flights from Singapore to Laos or to Udon Thani (Tiger flew for a while, but stopped). You'll need to transfer via Kuala Lumpur (Air Asia to Vientiane) or Bangkok (Thai, Lao, Bangkok Airways to Vientiane/Luang Prabang).

or you could go to Chiang Mai and then overland into north of Laos and work your way down south. Worth considering to avoid backtracking (seeing that it takes ca. 10 hrs bus just LP to VT).

I flew from Bangkok to Nong Khai, crossed the border, and took local bus to Vientien, which if memory serves me right, it was not a long one even though it was a pretty boring journey.
Also took local bus from Vientien to Luang Prabang; took forever but it was anything but boring!

FYI, the rail line from Nong Khai to Vientiane will officially open on March 5th. A few friends and I will try to catch the inaugural run from Bangkok (leaves 8 PM, arrives 10 AM the next morning), send me a PM if you want to join in

If you are going Vietaines, Air Asia via KL is a good option as it will arrive at Vietaine in early morning. If you are going to Luang Prabang, Bangkok Airway might be a better option. If you only want to do a short trip to Laos, you might need consider where in Laos you want to visit before you decide how to fly.Travel overland might wasted you too much time.
