Driving in peak hour

We are moving to Singapore mid April. Our kids will got to the German European School (Bukit Timah). We just found the perfect house for us in Ang Mo Kio/Bishan. On the google map it takes us around 18 min to get from one to the other. My question: How bad is peak hour traffic? Anybody with experience in those areas? We will need to drive to the school between 7.15 and 8am and then again around 3pm.

Peak time is around 7 a.m and 9 a.m morning and 5pm to 9pm if i'm not mistaken, the morning is pretty hectic and may add another 10 to 15 minutes on to the journey i would believe, but the traffic does flow, rather than being stuck waiting, unless there as been an accident.

That should be quite manageable, we drive from near the Nee Soon Army Camp to Toa Payoh to drop our daughter off at Avondale Grammar every morning, it usually takes us around 15-20 mins barring accidents.

As long as you're not heading into the city, or need to enter an artery that leads to the city, you should be ok.

Your route sounds like you may need to calculate max 30 minutes.

I am currently in the same situation. Son is going to the German School and we are living Ang Mo Kio. Please reconsider moving there cos the traffic in the morning is really heavy and it takes you at least 35 to 40 min. sometimes up to 1 hour. We even consider moving closer to the school because I spend so much time in the car just bringing and picking up my son. An alternative would be to use the school bus to the German School perhaps you check out this option.

Even if the school doesn't have a bus, you might look into hiring one if you can find enough people in your neighborhood, sometimes it can be quite cost effective or consider a car pool. I don't think public transportation is really an option.

If you can't get the kids to school easily, perhaps the house is not 'perfect' afterall?

Hi Simone,
We just deceided to move to Ang Mo Kio. As long as i can drive and it is not stop and go (which sounds like it) it is not to different to what we used to do in Sydney. So we hope for the best. Unfortunatley the school bus is far to expensive. We can only afford a car or the school bus but not both. If you still live there maybe we can share the driving? Sounds like you are not using the bus either.
