hi all, i'm a local gal who's been dating a french guy for about 3 months and i think i really need some help into the french psyche! i've tried talking to him and his way of explaining is to say "c'est normale". argh!!

I lived with one for two years. It needs getting used to. adjustments here and there...but we learnt from each other. I like to think I became less uptight (atypical of Singaporeans in general) and he is more organised and learnt that sometimes you just have to make plans in order to proceed with things.

thanks for your replies!! yes i agree about the organisation bit!!! he says we'll do something on sunday but doesn't plan anything till sunday evening, despite my asking or suggesting alternatives!! i think i have lots more to learn and vice versa for him!!

I don't think this is a french behaviour. It's your boyfriend who's like this, who's not stressed and who enjoys slowly his life.

this topic makes me recall all the things that happened during the two years I lived together with my ex-boyfriend who is french. its funny but I really took the situation in my stride and whilst there were differences in our approach to things and all, we never fight about such differences but were amused most of the time. I remember how he thought he could just decide on friday we are going off for hols over the weekend but I told him, non non...the flights would be fully booked. He didn't believe me at first and then once's bitten twice shy...the next few times we had our vacation, he urged me to book them way in advance!

So just embrace the differences, learn from them and learn to laugh at them.
