Process of being employed while on LPR

Greetings,
I was recently approved for the LPR and I am currently looking for opportunities. Between the time that I am hired and the time that I apply for the actual PR, will I be able to work for the hiring company?

I guess my question is, does the approval for LPR allow me to legally work in SG given that I won't have an employment pass? Thanks in advance.

The bad news is NO you cannot work on a LPR.

The GOOD news is as soon as you submit your letter of offer from the prospective employer, ICA will automatically stamp your passport with an EP (employment pass) to allow you to start work immediately while your PR is being processed (this will take up to 3 months do don't get paranoid while waiting).

Congratulations on finding employment to establish your PR. Please have the graciousness to stick with the job until at least your probation is over. The employer already knows you are taking the job only to gain your PR. He's doing you a favour. So remember it should be a two-way street.

I intend to wait for the job that I really want to be in. I figure that I have a year to do this and will take my time.

In today's economy that might not be a good idea as you think you can wait it out? What happens at 10 months, still nothing and the economy takes another nosedive? You might not be so lucky and your 12 months to utilize the LPR will expire. Something to think about.

Definitely something to think about. FYI, they have an option to extend the search period by another year. I have to apply for it, 2 months before the expiry of the original 1 year period.

Sorry, one more point. Since my spouse and I applied for the LPR together, if either one of us secures full time employment, then the conditions of LPR are satisfied. Seems like they stipulate different conditions for every applicant, so this is certainly not a standard.

Again, not a done deal, but hopefully improves our odds.
