Why privately? You suspect yourself of lying to yourself? Course lots of us do that on occasion. Like when we look into the mirror and say we aren't getting fat, or "I'm gonna quit smoking when this pack runs out" 
Not sure if it's even done here as it's not something that is admissible in court as it can be fooled.
