If you are looking for more Indian TV Channels than what is available in Singapore, there is some good news to share with you. I have launched an online survey for a new Indian TV service (on broadband) in Singapore.

I received some queries on this. So thought to publish small clarification here.

This TV service will be on Broadband but it is not a TV "Website".

Users will be able to watch channels on a regular TV set by connecting a Set Top Box same way as cable TV. It's just that instead of "Cable" this STB will use "Broadband connection at back.

I think the term IPTV is familiar now to many of us; but in case anyone do not know about it... This is IPTV

why so many channels when there is a local Indian channel along with many other cable tv channels

haha, i am local ind here, so far the local vasantham have improved quite a lot since the 1990s and 1980s..

There are four or five Indian channels available on Starhub. I currently subscribe to 2 of them plus the local channel. With around 5 available and possibly more why would anyone want to have another STB to clutter up the entertainment center.

..The 5 channels that Starhub has are all Hindi so it caters only for north indians who speak hindi. The rest really miss the channels back home.

That's factually incorrect. Star hub does have several Tamil channels too (which one would expect). I don't subscribe to them but they are there alright.

And most of those who are smart enough to leave India and find a job overseas already know either Tamil or Hindi in addition to their family dialect. Same thing happens here with the Chinese. All dialects spoken at home are only at home, why should they cater for all the different dialects of Chinese. As the majority Indian dialect in Singapore is Tamil and it's one of the four main languages here, and most of the other dialectic groups here speak Hindi then if those two are catered for, it probably doesn't make economical sense for them to carry a channel for a hundred watchers in some obscure dialect. If you want obscure, stay in India. As we tell most Western expats who come here, if you are expecting England or the US, don't come here. This isn't India either.

Tamil is not a dialect and nor are other 16 official languages spoken in India. They have their own script as well. And just as many tamilians dont speak hindi similarly many other indians dont speak hindi either and only speak their own regional language. these are the people who arent being catered to.

As I said, for the 100 or so that that would effect, it doesn't make economic sense does it. And, if it's that big of a problem, I would assume that the family understands English as without knowing at least one of the four languages here, it would have been pretty hard to get a job here wouldn't it. Therefore, adapt or go home? Expats have to learn to be adaptable, and not expect the foreign society to adapt to them. Sorry, them's the breaks.

i too have similar thoughts.. too big and diversified to be one. Either the states should enjoy more control and freedom like in the US or some arrangement like the EU will be best for people to be happy.
