Yeah, but that's the national pastime in Australia innit? "going walkabout!"

How many? I see only a list of <30 ppl from the period starting in 1986. In US in 2005 there was 100,000 missing persons (population 300 million).

But how many of these are never seen ever again? How many of these people are never shown in the media?
For all that we're told Singapore is a safe place, I think an alarming number of people disappear for a population of only 4 million on an island where there are very little options to just, say, move to another town.

you're actually debating about the numbers released by an entity that exercises strict control over information?!?!?!?!?

I think (at least for the US data) this is (roughly) the mentioned number:
http://www.fbi.gov/hq/cjisd/missingpersons2008.htm
As of December 31, 2008, there were 102,764 active missing person records in NCIC. Juveniles under the age of 18 account for 51,054 (49.7 percent) of the records and 12,648 (12.3 percent) were for juveniles between the ages of 18 and 20.
During 2008, 778,161 missing person records were entered into NCIC, a decrease of 4.5 percent from the 814,967 entered in 2007. Missing Person records cleared or canceled during the same period totaled 745,088. Reasons for these removals include: a law enforcement agency located the subject, the individual returned home, or the record had to be removed by the entering agency due to a determination that the record was invalid.
100k per 300 million so ~1300/4million. If the data are reliable (nakatago's point) I would say this still falls into the image of a very safe country.
