Obstetrician in Thomson Medical Centre

Hi,

I am looking for recommendations on good obstetricians in Thomson Medical Centre. Its my first pregnancy and originally I was considering homebirth but I just found out that we are expecting twins so that plan is out of the window. I am still in the first trimester and the doctor I've been dealing with has already mention the "C" word.

I am well aware that most of doctors in Singapore going to consider twin pregnancy as a high risk one and might try to push me for unnecessary procedures. I hear that Thomson provides the best facilities for natural birth and I am desperately trying to find a doctor in TMC who is open minded and supports natural active birth. The idea of male gynecologist doesn't agree with me so I am mainly interested in female doctors.

Also, I would like to know if it is helpful to get a doula or its just a big waist of money.

Will be grateful for your suggestions and opinions.

Hi mrstt, Thomson Medical is very obstetrics-centric. But what i heard is that Dr Tony Tan from Raffles Hospital is the one of the best gynes to manage twin pregnancies. Do check his credentials out.

Congrats on your pregnancy ! Deliverying twins naturally is certainly something not every doctor is willing to endeavour. In Singapore, not many gynaes will try the natural way for twins. In Thomson medical, the only doc I know does this (including natural breech birth) is Dr Paul Tseng. I switched to him for my 3rd pregnancy for this reason. He is willing to hear you out what sort of child birth you'll like. He's is very willing to complement and help you acheieve your desired birth and not comprising on your safety. He's great if you want a gynae who is willing to exhaust all natural options before deciding doing under the knife. But he is male. He does work with 2 other female gynaes in his clinic (but I can;t say they are as pro-natural as he is). Next door to his clinic (TLC) has a female gynae (Dr Adeline I think) She has very good reviews too. Hope you find someone you feel most comfortable with : )

For doulas, it's again a personal preference. I have friends who swear by them and I also have friends who have done well with just the support of their husbands. Doulas are really there to support you : )

Samsarah, I am actually glad to hear your feedback about Paul Tseng. I just had my first appointment with him a week ago. I've done lots of research on the Internet and, judging from most of the comments, he seems like the only doctor who is more open minded about it. I don't like male doctors but decided to chance him because I do really want to deliver naturally. He doesn't consider my pregnancy high risk. He actually said that its the same as two seperate pregnancies because the twins are not identical and that he won't have any problem delivering them naturally if there are no complications with the pregnancy. So, I am happy with my choice.

As to doulas, I think I will just stick to my husband's support.
