Therein lies the problem with parenthood (too many parents shouldn't be parents in my opinion), Once you become a parent, you priorities are no longer yours, but you have a child's future to think about and that has to take overriding control of your life. At that point, your career MUST take a back seat and decisions weighted in favour of the child. (doesn't mean to neglect your career, but to tailor it's progression so as to minimize disruption to your family and children in particular) Otherwise, you do your child a disservice. (in my 'rarely' humble opinion).

so let's say the kid is 2nd generation PR holding a British passport. He must do Sing National Service, but wouldn't that be treacherous towards Britain? What if a spat broke out between Sing and the UK - what happens then? Just hypothetical, but important.

Singapore is still a member of the commonwealth. So it doesn't enter into it. Secondly, I don't reckon the kid or his parents would remain in Singapore if there were problem between the two countries. I would presume anyone holding a British Passport would be ejected from the country, PR or not. At least it would be the logical thing to do, don't you think?

Actually what you said is so true hypothetically. We had war games scenario on this b4. SG lost on that war game in the 80's. To put it in prespective SG has a pact call ANZUK. Australia , New Zealand and United Kingdom defense pact. Treachery is not an issue. Now SG has US defense pact, that is why the deep water port for US Naval in Sembawang was built.

End date of employment is 2nd July. I will stay 30 days, per usual MoM to tidy up loose ends. I will in fact be leaving Sg mid July.
Does it matter...

I guess it so you don’t overstay illegally and so they can have the data in their system. Much like a census.
