The key to a successful app is developing one that nobody else has and that everybody wants. This is very hard to do, given that there are 250,000 apps available and only a few hundred or maybe a few thousand really make it big time.zigzag wrote:Hello, every one, Any idea on start an iPhone App development house?
I'm new to this area but find it's of much fun. Appreciate your ideas.
Do you have any other background which could fit with this new activity? Do you have good contacts?zigzag wrote: I'm new to this area but find it's of much fun.
You should go to elance.com and find someone to code your idea. Obviously you handle patent and copyright issues, and there are good people on elance.Laxidasical wrote:I have two ideas for educational apps. My wife and I are both teachers. I also have good friends who write for the largest apple magazine, so I could get it some publicity. Now, if only I knew how to code.

I'm an iPhone developer since 2008, I work in freelance and I just created my company here in Singapore. All clients want to see experienced developers.

I've helped a few companies start up in this area. I ran a digital marketing agency which was acquired in 2010.
I have some advise to offer. I see you have two directions you can take.
1. Production house model. This is where you set up a creative company and take orders from MNCs to build their apps here. Difficult market - most apps for MNCs are built out of the US /UK. And the ones built here are under stiff competition from strong technical people in India. The average app build you can charge S$20-25k, and it will take 2 months to roll out.
2. Produce and fund your own apps. This is how a lot of gaming houses start. They take a position in the market, punt on a few titles they hope will work, and hope they succeed so they can franchise them.
Lots fail, and some succeed. Its a numbers game. If you are technical and can sit at home paying no rent, your investment is only time. Sky is the limit. If you take this route, try building your brand in a particular area. Example become known for creating education or healthcare apps. A simple app can make as much $$$ as a well designed game, and take a fraction of the time to produce. A successful app will pull S$3-6k per month in passive income. But be aware you will have to roll up your sleeves to promote it.
