The only schools you should consider sending your child to OFS and UWC, SAS is good but too far.

All the other wannabe intl schools are not a good idea. You want your child to be in a nice environment where they will make lifelong friends of a good calibre. Does not hurt to be old school mates with the world's future leaders and movers and shakers in society, start networking early haha

I dont know where you people are from but these are very basic US/Canadian school standards.

IB stands for International Baccalaureate... it is just a International Standard for a high school diploma. You would not have trouble getting into US schools with this... I am guessing you need SATs

AP is advanced placement, these are higher level courses which can be used for college credit. You take them at some point in highschool and most schools would grant credit for succesfully completed courses. AP courses are optional. Most of the time they are used to substitute electives or similar courses in the college course load.

The IB diploma involves taking six courses including two languages, math, a science and a humanities, with 3 at 'higher level' (~AP-level material) and 3 at 'standard level' (arguably less than AP, but still above 'standard US curriculum'). AP lets you pick and choose the subjects you want. AP and IB HL exams, if you do well, gets you credit. (exception are 'lesser' unis and the U of Florida, which is quite crazy about IB) Both AP and IB are OK for US college admissions.

I think local schools are worth taking a look at - it is quite rigorous and when it's $15 v. $20K+, I think they're worth strong consideration. I went to a "neighbourhood" (read: has spots in Phase 3) primary school in Clementi and felt it was very good. I do believe it takes a certain child + parent (not pointing any fingers!) to succeed there though, so you have to do some pro-con list drawups (:

Full disclosure: I went to local school in Singapore until the 9th grade-equivalent then moved back to the US and just graduated HS with the IB Diploma.

You might want to check the Canadian school as well. Our daughter is enrolling there in the fall once we move in October. They have a campus in the west, not too far from NUS. There is one opening up farther out next year I think. Curriculum would be similar to American, though history etc would be different I imagine.

Thanks for all the useful info.

My son will be 9 years when we move to Singapore. Since he is in Phase 3 and will almost finish grade 3 in US by that time, we think that going to a International School may be a better choice for him. I know that some local schools are very good. The thing is if we choose a local school , which grade my son will stay. And looks like that he will need to take some test around grade 3 from MOE.

However, choosing a good and suitable international school is not that easy too.

ouch. harsh words. I think SJI international is quite a good school too and OP might want to consider it. Personally, I would choose SJI international over SAIS and ICS.

Considering you've been here a year and only just today registered to heap praises on Sais, in two posts and they are the only two posts you've made, why is it that I feel like you are nothing but a shill for Sais? I initially had a good mind to delete the posts but decided to leave them instead along with this message so that other can take the information with a grain of salt as it were. With all the problems that sais had, you make it seem like there were never any problems, hence my suspicions.

Having said that, everybody interested in sais should visit the school and make their own determination by talking to parents and reading ALL the threads available in the search engines regarding the school.
