Hi, does anyone know a trustful watch repair shop?
It's not an expensive watch, and warranty over already, but I think it's an easy thing to repair, and the watch is meaningful.
Any suggestion?

It's just a normal Seiko, not more than 300 SGD, but important to me as I said. It's a funny problem. The needles rotate properly, but the "platform" with the numbers rotates too! If I just look at the needles and ignore the rest, still proper time is shown.
But number 6 is now where 12 is supposed to be and vice-versa. It doesn't rotate at the same speed though, lol
So I think it's just a matter of fixing that basis that should be loose.

I think is best to go to the Seiko agent in Singapore rather than with the local repair shop . Moreover the watch is sentimental to you
I edit this. Type error

The seiko agent may even do it free of charge, if you shout loud enough! Ask reception, they will take it in the back room to get an estimated price for you. Tell her clearly you don't wish to spend more than 10$ on it. To ask them if they will do it for that much, if not walk out!
I took my seiko there, I have the sportura $1400, very disappointed when they gave me the estimate for cleaning and renew rusted internal parts. Any way they cut the bill in half after I complained that a pricey watch should be at least more reliable than a $10 watch.
The sweat from my wrist caused internal rusting, though i have 5 other cheap seiko 5's which i have never had a problem with, and this one they call sportura....They are pretty okay in Seiko, and I'm sure it will not take more than 5 minutes work!

Intersting. I also have a Seiko 5 that suffered rusting. Haven't opened it up, but externally, one of my pins holding the metal bracelet has rusted off and now I can't get the rusty stub out of the hole to put in a new one. trying to drill out the hole will result in a out of round hole due to the fact that the bit will have to enter on an angle because of the other lug of the watch throwing it off centre. Have tried various rust freeing agents to no avail. Watch still keep good time (as long as you give is some daily flicks to wind it up again.
I've also got a Timex Expedition with steel bracelet that the sweat has eaten through the plating on one of the lugs that rubs against my wrist, so now the base metal causes a rash whenever I wear it. Anybody know where I can get a leather wrist bracelet that doesn't look totally metal or biker style? (full wrist so the watch is kept away from the skin?). It has a 22mm lug width.

I've searched through the forum on posts regarding watch repair... and I need some advice regarding the servicing of my watch.
The jewel on the crown of my watch fell out and the crown now catches on materials and sometimes will scratch b/c the surface is now rough. I took the watch back to the store (it's past it's warranty) and asked to have the jewel replaced. They have now come back with a quotation of almost $600 for "mandatory" servicing inclusive of the $120 to replace the jewel. There is nothing currently wrong with my watch other than the jewel bit missing so I don't want to pay the extra $480 for servicing - but I called another reputable watch shop and they said it would be beneficial to service the watch every five years or so (the watch is almost 5 years old).
My question is should I just bite the bullet and have the servicing done since they cannot replace the jewel or the crown without taking the face apart or take the watch back? I'm not really bothered about the jewel missing - it's the broken bit of the crown that keeps catching on everything.
I've searched on the site and Sincere does not carry this brand but I did speak with Hourglass who told me the service center for this watch is worldwide so the servicing requirements will be the same.

Sounds about right. a couple of years ago, I had my Omega overhauled by the factory via the local distributor. It cost me over $350 at the time and there were no repairs needed. (and that was for a non-chronograph, non-date dress watch) But I also requested replacement certification/valuation of the watch which they provided, including when it was produced (1969) and where it was sold in the US (New Jersey) and the relative condition of the watch (near Mint). It also came back with a 100% one year new watch guarantee. So, to me, it was worth it. Especially since being a manual watch, the lubricants can get "sludgy" and cause the watch to run slow after many years.

SMS thanks for your quick reply... I think you are right - especially reading the other posts regarding humidity and rust. I didn't think about asking if this guarantees against fault for a certain time period - good point!
I was just really skeptical about the estimate as I didn't want to be that sucker who ends up paying for something that doesn't need to be done.
Thanks again.

That's okay, I did the same freak-out as well when I asked for an estimate on how much is would cost for a full factory servicing. But as it's over 40 years old and for all intents & purposes still mint, I figured it would be worth it, if for no other reasons than maintaining it's value.

It would be helpful knowing what kind of watch it is.
I've seen uncle stores that can open up watches (Toa Payoh Mall), and seen Casio on Middle Road do a battery change for me while I wait for $10, and seen Cartier suggest I'm nuts for not having my watch serviced every 3 years for $x00.
It all depends what you have, and what they think they can make.

There have to be enough people here with Swiss watches. I'd be interested what if any maintenance they carry out...
