Moving to Singapore

Hello everyone,

I'm a Malaysian, currently living and working in Ireland. I think now it is time for me to move somewhere near to my country to be with my beloved family.

I do have some queries about my plan:

1) How can I apply for my working permit? Should I find a job first before moving to Singapore?
2) Is it possible to apply for some pass and move to Singapore first in order to find a job?
3) I dont have a degree but I am a qualified accountant (ACCA). What is my chance to get a job in Singapore?

Any suggestions and other thoughts are all welcome.

1) A friend of mine who recently moved here found recruiters were a lot more receptive when she was physically in Singapore
2) Depending on the passport you hold you can stay for 90 days and extend for a limited number of times before it starts to affect your application for a work permit

1. Only your employer can apply for the pass for you. It is very difficult to find a job without being here.
2. An EPEC/LTVP would allow you to stay here for job search, but that is only available for degree holders, as far as I know. Malaysians can come for 90 days visa-free, but you have to stay in a hotel or Serviced Apartment.
3. Without a degree, an EP is out of the question. You don't want to work on a WP (means below S$1500/month). S-Pass is your only option (S$1500-3000/month). I have no idea how likely that is. Read the link given above to learn about the kinds of pass.

Have rules changed that much?
I got an EP without being a graduate.
I later (Tour#2) got an EPEC/LTVP still without being a graduate.

A P1 EP does not require any degree, diploma or any other academic qualification. It just requires a high enough salary as the gahmen figure if the company is willing to pay that much for a non-degree holder, he's already the academics overshadowed anyway. Experience DOES count for something when it coupled with over 8K/mo salary.

To add to beppi's 1), the friend I mentioned found a job in marketing in two weeks in September and contracts were signed, in principle approval by the end of her first month here

But admittedly, anecdotal evidence suggests the majority of time it is considerably longer before one is lucky AND the employer can justify hiring a foreigner. Believe me, as an HR Manager of a 200+ employee SME, I know!
