Lego Anybody?

Anybody is into lego? specially NXT 2.0?

My 5 year old loves Lego, why do you ask?

I like LEGO (still have some of them from my childhood); thought about getting a NXT system as well but never got around to actually doing it. Also, I find it expensive and last time I checked, the toolchain doesn't directly support Linux. (I've dabbled with LabVIEW back in college as well).

We can always use java (Lejos http://lejos.sourceforge.net/).
If you are into those strict realtime requirements, there is an (somewhat) RTSJ complied java for it as well (http://www.lejosrt.org/).

True, I guess I'm behind the times, Lego never needed Java when I was a kid! if it had a motor in it then it was very advanced!

The development software, when I checked, only runs on either Windows or Mac. Haven't checked lately but at this point it would be troublesome to take up LEGO programming and thus would be low on my list of priorities. Would have been cool, though, but hey, that's life.

I guess you just need a java IDE (eclipse or even notepad++), lejos sdk, bluetooth then voila: lots of fun with lego robot. These are readily available in almost any linux flavour. I myself use Ubuntu.

Like I said, when I checked, NXT had its own IDE and LabVIEW-esque programming. The Java development must be new but I couldn't be bothered at this point. If that must be the case now, it would be great. Past tense.

If you could code for the NXT in your linux box, good for you. I guess I could now but I wouldn't. Just saying.

Ooooh, there are a number of different ways to code these things, to think you can buy lego you can code! I like this... I may have to get some now, how do I keep it away from my 5 year old son though?
