Hi I'm planning to go to Tioman Island with my wife at the end of June. I understand that it's the school holidays - will that be a big problem?
Does anyone have any recommendations of places to stay priced below S$80 per night for double room? Or where to go to book places?
Also I need to know how to contact these places too so that I can make a booking - any ideas?
Thanks in advance,
~Dan

Try this company- I got a package through them
One piece of advise- fly up there, rather than get the coach/ferry- it ended up taking me 8hours to get there, by which time I had lost the will to live.
This company also do flights- believe you me it's worth it, although the times on the way back are not v good 11am. I almost wept with joy when I landed back in Singapore- it only took 35 mins on the way back!!!
If you don't want to go for a resort- check the lonely planet online- there are loads of little chalets

It's beuatiful- the snorkelling/diving is amazing. Make sure you take your cash with you if you are not staying in the Berjaya resort- no ATMs etc
Enjoy

Thanks - the trouble is that the prices are S$300 or so per night minimum, whereas I'm looking for cheaper.
And yeah it would be nice to fly, but again, price is an issue for me, so we'll be taking the ferry I guess.

You can try Paya Beach Resort......
http://www.discoverytours.com.sg
or
http://www.holidaybagus.com/PulauTioman_PayaBeach.htm
Last time I stayed there, the package was under SGD$300 for three days two nights - includes two brekkies, two dinners and a snorkeling trip with a packed lunch. What they call a 'full board' package. Might be a little more if you are planning on taking a flight though. And the flight will be a seperate cost if I am not mistaken - I think Berjaya Air only ferries passengers to their own resort?

:
Good luck and have a blast! The snorkeling in Tioman is heavenly!

And the sultans - yeah the sultans
they play creole...Creole, baby

hi newgirl
i don't know what's wrong with your trip? coach from Singapore to Mersing only 3 - 3.5 hours, then speedboat from Mersing to Tioman only 1 hour, how come ur one is 8 hours?
Flight is really not worth.
Paya beach or Tioman paya is nice & have reasonable price, even if you stay in cheaper one (budget) they also have the room only 80rm (< 40sgd).
I heard that if you book package from Singapore, they'll take you to Tangjung Gomek (or sth) rather than Mersing, there only 1 ferry operator so you may have to wait quite long, so only take the package which go to Mersing (tens of speed boat operator there, speed boat is much faster than ferry).
so buy the coach separately, then buy the package from the resort (usually including speedboat & accomodation & breakfast... or optional full board (recommended)).
