Why don't you bring the legs and drawers as well? Seems a shame just to bring the top part.
Be careful what you wish for

If it is just 1 PC don't see any problem, especially if it is already used.

No problem.
Except for one thing. You have to make sure you do not have pirated software or media contents in your desktop when you bring over. It may be very rare but ICA may check the contents. Same things goes to the CDs you will bring along with your desktop.
I have heard of a case of a friend of a friend (by word of mouth) that his laptop was checked by ICA and got fined for containing pirated softwares/movies inside. Of course whether it is a true case or not, I can't vouch for that but doesn't harm to be careful.

I'd be highly suspicious of this. How do you prove an application is legitimate or installed? Unless he blatantly left media in a BitTorrent 'Downloads' folder with the pirate groups' naming scheme, it's really hard. Software even more so.

I wondered the same way. But one can pretty certain about the pirated CDs...

On this note:
Normal Encryption is NOT recommended for travelling to the US. If you do not provide the key, TSA will simply seize the equipment until they can examine it and break the encryption. Since good encryption can take until after the Sun cools down to crack with modern equipment, this might be a while.
