Hi,
Came from India last month.
Salary they said 4500 sgd then housing allowance 850 + few other allowances make it up to 500 more.
Staying in a JTC house with a Indian family paying 650 per month.
Luckily they are so nice so I can eat up their food at no extra charges.
Transport and eating outside and occasional beer costing me 1000
And rent 650
So first month my savings are 4000.
And I think this is very safe place compared to India, considering the recent high end crimes against women in India.
Everything is ok except for one thing don't ever expect to make friends or acquaintances with people here.they won't talk much.
You may feel bored just like me.
Consider googling for adds related to renting common rooms to single persons
And choose a nice family suiting to your taste and contact them by phone well before coming here,as you company seems to be not ready to take care of your temporary accommodation till u find a permanent one

Welcome babji.
Good to hear that you are making some serious savings.
I can't stop myself from laughing on reading the phrase 'high end crimes'

Some to the comments on that TRE article are unbelievable. The extent of the latent racial hatred is truly shocking.

Wow.
I can't help but wonder how many of the people I'm surrounded by at work or on the street feel like that, of if it's just a few cranky xenophobes.

'Local is the best' contributed this highly erudite comment:
"f**k them all back to their own country be it a neh, ah tiong, ahno or ahmo, f**t them all"
I'm trying to figure out the missing characters in the "f**t" at the end. Foot? Fart? Flit? Answers on a postcard please...

Can we ban this urban monkey here? He's obviously making locals sound more xenophobic that they already are. This is not his first time, if you remember.
Urban monkey, you should really blame your fellow compatriots holding HR roles for hiring the foreigners if that's your problem. BAM--! Right back at you.

Frankly, I think it's good to have urbanjungle101 here. He is a constant reminder to all as to WHY the government needs to import FT for a couple of reasons. The biggest one, at least by his discourse here, is the dire need of the government to refreshment of the gene pool here. He is a very good example of just how depleted it actually is. (along with the rest of them on TRE site).

SOME PEOPLE TRY TO TURN BACK THEIR ODOMETERS. NOT ME. I WANT PEOPLE TO KNOW WHY I LOOK THIS WAY. I'VE TRAVELED A LONG WAY, AND SOME OF THE ROADS WEREN'T PAVED. ~ Will Rogers
