How conservative are Singaporean girls?

I ask this question because I understand that Singapore is a unique blend of Western culture, significant Buddhist population (relevant because Buddhism doesn't place strong judgments on sexuality like some other religions do), but also has extremely strict laws, possibly encouraging more conservative attitudes and behaviors from everyone, girls included.

For the other young men here who have pursued the girls of Singapore, what has been your experience? I'm guessing that girls would be fairly conservative because of the local laws as well as influence from the surrounding Muslim countries--I hope to be wrong though!

Some will be slightly more conservative (I found a larger than expected young Christian population in SG), but the operative word is more 'prude'.

That said, while the trend may skew more conservative than other places there are still plenty of all types. So don't worry, you'll still get laid.

Oh, and the "Muslim" thing means nothing in this regard. You should see the photos on Facebook of a lot of girls in Hijab by day and their clubbing outfits by night.

I would say they are conservative because that's the "order" from the older generations. Unless there's a lobang (hole, literally) inside the "order"

I've never met a female Singapore virgin aged older than 18 or so.... I've been propositioned by more Singapore women than western women. I've always considered Singapore women to be quite liberated actually and not caught up in the awful gender war that some Aussie women are caught in (where they hate men, but strive to be like men).

Have your children reached Secondary school yet? Once they do, they'll come back with numerous stories. (which aren't "stories"). The abortion clinics here are not going bankrupt. There are stories in the press all the time about girls giving birth in toilets, or stairwells. Of course you don't find them on the front pages of the Local Bird Cage Liner but you will find them buried in the middle & back pages of the New Paper and the other tabloid types. (LBCL is a government mouthpiece so you wont see it there, obviously). It is fairly widespread and has been for a long, long time. (Both of my kids went through the local system and have their fair share of stories to tell). All of them? Of course not. But I reckon the percentages are just as high here as in any other country brought up on a diet of MTV and other western media. And the numbers that don't practice safe sex is mind-numbing. This is because in Asian societies, the parents don't take the forefront in sex educating their children and they also frown on the Schools doing so. Therefore it becomes a hit or miss proposition with garbage from the internet not helping matters.

That's so spot on. Why is that? I get countless inquiries by phone from people around the world. Invariably, Australian women come out guns blazing before I've even spoken. Their aggressive stance is as consistent as it is inexplicable. I've never met them, never spoken to them, yet they're so.... angry.

Striving to be like men? I reckon they strive to be more than men. I get a lot of Aussie men on the phone too, but, generally, they're agreeable chaps, easy-going even.

But Australian women - ugh.

It's perhaps even worse in the US, particularly within the corporate environment. There many women feel the need to out-macho men, but, in addition they factor it up in proportion to how relatively deprived they believe their ethnicity/background is.

I had a female director there... man what a horrible piece of work. But at least she wasn't 'black and Jewish' to go with it.

And the thing is, it's so counter-productive. I'm obviously not going to give in to a preemptive tirade or any sort of claws-out intimidation attempt. So they hang up on me angrier than at the start of the call. Empty-handed.

Just this week I picked up to an Australian female caller. I braced myself at the twang, but didn't need to because she was courteous and friendly from start to finish. Ever so rare, that.

I have never thought deeply about it... but have sometimes wondered whether the raw deal women got when Australia was first settled is part of the reason (women were shipped out as whores, Abo women turned into sex slaves etc).

Most Aussie women start off life as lovely teens... my nieces are still ok at 19/23 but I can see them getting harder as the years go by. Oddly enough in the cities there is now a gender imbalance with a man drought in some - you'd think that would turn it around but it hasn't....

I'm not sure about that.

I remember an article (UK newspaper) maybe 3-4 years ago, showing images of a collection of the court records of criminals 'transported' to Australia in punishment for a crime, with original hand-written record card details of the person, description (very un-PC back then!), crime, and sentence, together with a photo. IIRC they were from maybe 1840-1870?

It was incredibly poignant as so many of them were children, and a lot were girls. Deported (from London) for things like 'attempting to snatch a gentleman's pocket watch' to ditto for a lace handkerchief from a shop, to even stealing a loaf of bread!

You can see why I remember it quite so vividly, it was amazing the severity of punishment handed down to even minors.

REALLY? I'm so sorry your view of women (oh, and blacks and Jews) is so negatively skewed. What a horrible world you must live in to have the triple whammy of sexist, racist AND religious biases informing your view of reality!
