I am afraid you will have to define your parameters a little bit clearer.

Men can use the sex act (and it's various permutations like watching porn movies ) purely as a release of tension. On the other hand, women (not all, but the vast majority) cannot separate the sexual act from the emotion of love and procreation.

Theoretically yes, men can do without sex (Priests are a good example :tongue-in-cheek_smilie: ) but why would we want to keep that bottled up inside us? There are healthy reason not to do so as I have already pointed out. Personally, I don't think women can do without as well, otherwise dildo/vibrators & lesbians wouldn't exist!

Please don't be afraid to open you horizons a little bit. Life will be ever so much more fun and you still won't go blind or have hairy palms or be condemned to purgatory. Start listening to you own body rather than trying to ignore what it is trying to say to you.

Being a lesbian is not a choice you make just to have sex. It's the way some women are. Lesbians too go without sex. They're just people after all.
I'd agree though that some...some...women do like to stick the 'lurve' thing onto sex, no, not like to, have to, as it is more to do with being 'protected' with our offspring once we've had them. Men can procreate millions of times with no come back but women are the ones who carry the baby.

Not saying most men go off and do this, but it's hard wired into them by nature. It takes a lot of willpower for most guys not to follow their genetic make up and just 'spread it around.'

Not sure how that leaves us with the growing trend of women being predatory. Seems to me like it's the accepted thing now for girls and women of ALL ages to just go out there and do it like a 'man.' Well, in the UK anyway. If you told a group of 16 year olds here that they couldn't act like their male counterparts, in ANY way, you'd get laughed out of the room.

Still, I don't really believe that when they settle down a little into their grown up selves that they carry on like that. Most women and men seem to follow stereotypes.

Yes, there are lots of women who could just have sex for relief, but I think it's a bit soulless. I am also sure that men are far more likely to think of a 'one off' sexual encounter as 'just the way it is' and enjoy it.

We'd be far more likely to be covered in worry and be mentally slapping ourselves around the face for falling off the wagon.

Certainly. Gays and lesbians are normal people just like you and me. Lesbians are no different from straight women except in their sexual orientation. And sexual orientation is not a choice, but something innate. Lesbians are naturally attracted to women, in the same way that straight women are naturally attracted to men. And yes, like straight women, some lesbians choose to be celibate. Whether to have sex or not is a personal choice, but not sexual orientation. Let's be sensitive and respectful towards everyone regardless of race, gender AND sexual orientation.

I'm with wimmin on this one. And yes I am guilty of the emotional attachment thing. Like Bubbs said, its a bit soulless when there no emotional intimacy as well, I think. But its so hard not to get attached....Especially when the sex is good and the guy's a nice person.

Well, I can only truly comment from my own (limited) experiences.
However, its difficult to steer clear from sterotypes and generalisations - and there are always exceptions to the rule.

I believe that the comment, as it stands, can be applied as a rough rule, but not as an absolute. Women can deal with a lack of sex better than guys, for one thing they can get meaningless sex so easily, so its not that they are after !
I've known girls to be able to switch off their sex drives during long periods outside a relationship, men are less likely to do so.

I believe the popularity of dildos/vibrator are more a product of women in relationships, and the cruel twist of nature that a girl experiences her peak in sexual desire in mid-30s, where as a man is expected to peak around 18. Its all these horny housewives with past their expiry date men. This explains to me why one of the earlier posters complains she only gets it once a month. Guys at 18 would like it 1-5 times a day !!

Finally, on to the topic of masturbation (it was the last posters comment!).
I believe that few people masturbate because they like/want to, they do it as an alternative to getting real action.
Now Ive read (do i really have to find the kinsey report?), that the incidence of masturbation for females is 4/10, whereas the incidence of masturbation for men is 9/10 (and the last guy lied ).
