Moving with teenagers doing GCSE’s

Hi, has anyone had any experience of moving to Singapore with a teenager in the middle of GCSE’s (Year 10/starting Year 11) they would be willing to share? Hubby and I are considering this but are concerned about the impact on our oldest son’s education. We are both hoping to get jobs in Education so would hopefully get places for them in a highly reputable school should we be successful with any application we put in.

As a child I was moved alot - I would not move kids during an exam prep or period. Leave them behind with their grandparents unless you think their distress at being left behind will be massively detrimental. Or you know, put your kids first.

I’m sorry you had such a negative childhood which has led you to a very negative and rude response. I’m putting my children first thank you by doing my homework first and seeking good advice as well as ensuring they have the best opportunities in life. hayley, aren't you a piece of work! The poster was the child of missionaries. You don't know the backgrounds of the posters here and what you see as rude is just an honest opinion that you should be thankful for. You didn't indicate that you have been expatriated before and asking the questions that you did, would probably not been asked had you been an expat before. He actually gave you good advice and yes he has children who are both teens and I believe one is now doing he National Service. He's been here for around 25 years.

To be specific - I was moved back at yr 11 to Australia from a good school in PNG to a dreadful state school. Yr 11 and 12 are preparation years for the Australian university matriculation years. I reckon the move cost me at least a 25% drop in my final marks.

Thank you for your input and apologies if I misunderstood your initial intention. I am certainly putting my children first as we are both headteachers who want the best education for our children. This is a huge decision for us as we have lived in the UK all our lives. My children know and accept that we will make the right decision for them. My oldest is currently in Year 9 so would complete his GCSE’s in an International School. I understand how being moved during your A Levels would have affected your grades and I’m sorry it had a negative impact. I appreciate your views

I moved here from Hong Kong, where there was an active "expats" forum (and another less active one). One could get a full range of answers to any question - sure, plenty of value signalling, petty sniping and expat griping, but lots of helpful and smart posters too. Why can't Singapore have the same? Has the heat and soft life put everyone to sleep?
